IronKey D500S is Kingston Digital’s new flash storage drive. A portable and compact device, which stands out for its military grade security and the versatility of use of its connection to a port as widespread as USB.
As you know, external storage drives are a good solution to increase the possibilities of storing and managing data, personal backups or running applications from the same drive. And all this under the physical control of the client. The portable ones, most with a USB interface, can be taken anywhere due to their pocket size and easily connected to almost any device.
They are used in both the consumer and professional markets, but in this segment they require a significant extra security since the distribution of malware from these small devices is not uncommon, with the danger of them reaching business networks.
IronKey D500S, total security
In line with the recent KeyPad 200C, Kingston puts safety above all else with military-grade hardware encryption. It features 256-bit XTS-AES encryption with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification (pending) with secure microprocessor upgrades for added security. Includes protections against BadUSB and Brute Force attacks, and multiple password options, including one-time recovery passwords for use by administrators.
It has several password creation options (complex mode or passphrase) and hidden partition creation options to keep data invisible to third parties. They also include cryptographic wipe passwords for compromised situations where any data is removed from the drive and read-only options.
The IronKey D500S has a casing made of zinc alloy resistant to water, dust, shocks and radiation. Additionally, the unit’s circuitry is protected by a unique epoxy coating, making tampering virtually impossible by damaging components when attempting to remove them. Finally, it has a self-test of the unit at startup, with thermal and voltage protection to automatically shut down the unit when it reaches certain thresholds.
In terms of technical characteristics, the unit uses a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface to deliver data transfer speeds of up to 310 / 250 Mbytes per second in read/write modes. In terms of its physical dimensions, the unit measures 77.9mm x 21.9mm x 12.0mm, allowing it to be carried anywhere in a pocket.
Kingston will sell this unit with a five-year warranty and in versions with storage capacities from 8 GB to 512 Gbytes. Works with all major operating systems, Windows, macOS, Linux or Android.
