LG unveils new OLED EX display technology

LG continues to present its novelties, in anticipation of a CES 2022 of which it will certainly be one of the main attractions.

LG is one of the benchmarks in the world of display technologies, and is also illustrated in the OLED segment with televisions and monitors that are often quite expensive, but nevertheless excellent. Far from being satisfied, the brand wants to raise the bar even higher with its brand new technology called OLED EX, spotted by The Verge.

These panels will obviously benefit from all the advantages of standard OLED technology, including deep blacks and overall excellent contrast. But according to the firm, they will benefit from 30% more brightness and an “improved image quality” compared to the basic version. This technology will also make it possible to reduce the size of the borders on all the products concerned.

To achieve this result, LG had to do in-depth work on both the hardware and software sides. They have indeed integrated new materials based on deuterium. It is an isotope of hydrogen which, once stabilized, allows pixels to glow more intensely and more efficiently. The other part of the work was done at the software level, with the arrival of new “custom algorithms based on machine learning technology”.

LG continues its teasing

We are therefore impatient to be able to discover this technology in real conditions to judge the progress of this technology compared to basic OLED panels. So, a real generational turning point or a minor breakthrough? We’ll find out at CES 2022, since LG is still one of the handful of exhibitors who haven’t canceled their physical presence at the event … at least for now.

We hope that they will maintain this commitment, after a rather intense teasing campaign. In a few weeks, the manufacturer gave us many sneak peeks of its various projects, such as this curved seat with integrated OLED screen or its new range of transparent screens. So we can’t wait to see what LG still has in stock; see you from January 5th!
