MCPRO Pills (CXLXII): Transputers, Ten Software, Web5

The history of computing is full of incredible events: small-big technological milestones that had the potential to completely change the world, but for various reasons ended up being almost nothing. One of the least known and most notorious of the 1980s is that of the transputers, probably the first SoC that is remembered.

Remembering this story we start the MCPRO pills in a week in which we also take a “leap into the future” to tell you about Web5, which should be the “natural” evolution of the Internet if we skip that Web3 that is being talked about so much at the moment. We also recommend that you do not miss our interview with Rafael Serna, CTO of Diez Software, who tells us about the impact that the cloud already has on business management software. Let’s start!

Transputers: when we dreamed of having a computer on a chip

Today, SoCs (System on a Chip) have become common in all kinds of devices, from smartphones to televisions, video game consoles or computers.

The industry seems to be very clear that the future is to have much more better within the same chip. But it wasn’t always like that. We tell you the story of one of the most visionary chips of the 80s.

Web5: the web, even more decentralized

When it seems that what is known as Web3 is still taking its first steps, a few months ago we have started to hear about Web5. Nothing less than in the mouth of Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter, who at the beginning of this year 2022 announced that, from a subsidiary of his company Block (formerly Square), he was going to dedicate himself to the development of Web5.

And he did so after openly criticizing Web3, which he accuses of also being very centralized, like Web2, and very hostile towards the general objectives that it sought to achieve at the beginning of its development.

Types of Artificial Intelligence you should know about

No matter what type of company or person it is, there is no doubt that at least a small part of each one makes use of Artificial Intelligence, a trend that will grow greatly in the coming years.

However, although we are used to it; the truth is that a deep history and variety is hidden behind this concept.

Rafael Serna (CTO Diez Software): “Management software is evolving towards exponential technologies: IA, BI, CBig Data and cloud”

Business management software is experiencing a golden age in which both the democratization of the cloud within SMEs and the self-employed, as well as the increased demand for automation and digitization in all business areas, have led to the commercialization of technological solutions growing overwhelmingly.

We spoke with Rafael Serna, CTO of Diez Software, a solution with more than 20 years of experience and which is part of Grupo Primavera, A Cegid Company, a leading cloud management software provider in Spain and Portugal.

Journey to Cloud Tales I: the paradox of the empty nightclub

It is obvious that, for multiple reasons (costs, scalability, immediacy, innovation, economies of scale, etc.), today we are in the process of massive adoption of this cloud paradigm. The initiatives of the big technology companies, the business strategies of many business organizations and even the interests of citizens, who have become accustomed to making use of many cloud functions in our day to day, are converging.

Of course not, I am a believer that the cloud is a great advance and that it helps enormously in the transformation of organizations. This apparent contradiction should not surprise us, it has happened multiple times in the history of technology (basically every time there has been a process of digital transformation), just remember the appearance of the Internet, when the same thing happened.

Elon Musk presents Optimus, the latest prototype of a humanoid robot

The prototypes of humanoid robots are becoming more and more specialized and the last one we already know as Optimus. It seems that it may be for sale in a few years, which is surprising, since technology is advancing by leaps and bounds.

Although the dog Spot from Boston Dynamics caught everyone’s attention a while ago, this case is even more striking, because it looks like a person.
