Microsoft has announced the launch of Windows 11 Moments 3 at BUILD 2023. This is the first major OS update in 2023 and it is available from today as an optional installation under the strategy of a gradual deployment, usual in the latest compilations to try to limit errors. The version will be released generally on Windows Update and for all users on June 13 as part of the monthly update.
Microsoft celebrates this week the annual conference with developers and the first day has left us the almost absolute leadership of the commitment to integrate the technologies of artificial intelligence in a good part of its services and applications. One of the great innovations has been Windows Copilot, an assistant that will be integrated into Windows and that will try to overcome the Cortana fiasco.
The company has also taken advantage of the BUILD framework to launch the new Windows 11 update. If you don’t follow us regularly and are lost with that little name of “Moments”, you should know that it is the new strategy of the engineering group, a kind of service packs reduced rates that Microsoft has implemented as a formula for keep system up to date on new features, technology support, system applications or those that you develop externally in parallel.
These Windows 11 “Moments” are part of the standard cumulative updates, but with a new twist, andInstead of just providing bug fixes and security patches, they also include new functions and features.
Windows 11 ‘Moments 3’, what’s new
Going into the matter, to be direct and as we have spoken in other releases, forget any ‘revolution’ because you will not find it. That should come next year with the release of Windows 12 and maybe not either, since Microsoft must first get rid of all legacy components, some present since Windows 95. With these limitations, the idea is improve the system here and there to make it more attractive in the eyes of the bulk of users who remain in Windows 10. We leave you with a summary of the news that you can find:
Privacy. In the task of improving transparency and control of personal information, a new privacy app setting will allow users to manage access to presence sensor information and adjust features such as ‘wake on approach’ and ‘block on exit’ ‘.
VPN. Along the same lines, and recognizing the importance of secure Internet connections, Microsoft is introducing an easier-to-view VPN feature. Users will be able to quickly determine the status of the VPN through a shield icon that appears in the taskbar above the active network connection.
2FA codes. It is a button added in the notification system that will allow you to copy two-factor authentication codes with a single click. This feature has been available on Android and iOS for a long time and now Microsoft is bringing it to its desktop operating system.
Credentials in the Start menu. To help users stay informed about their account status, Microsoft will implement an account identification system that will alert users when their accounts require attention, helping to protect your data and your PC itself. It will be located in the start menu.
Task Manager. An important internal component, which has certainly been getting better with each release and starting with this release will support live kernel dump, a data collection feature to fix a specific problem while the operating system continues to run. It will be very useful for developers or administrators who need to investigate unresponsive apps or other issues.
Bluetooth Low Energy Audio. In collaboration with Intel and Samsung, Windows 11 will add support for this new feature on PCs and it offers high-quality audio and low power consumption, which should improve the user experience in calls, videos and music with compatible devices.
usb4. The latest version of the peripheral connection standard is not yet as widespread as we would like, but Windows 11 is preparing for it with a new page in Settings that will provide information about hubs based on this version and connected devices.
CABC. He Content adaptive brightness control is a power-saving feature for laptops and tablets that allows you to decrease or increase the brightness based on the content on the screen. Although not new to Windows 11, the new update introduces more customization with features: off, battery only, and always on.
Microsoft Pluto. The in-house developed security chip for integration into Intel and AMD processors promises to deliver greater resistance to malware, stronger protection against hardware attacks, and additional protection for credentials. We haven’t seen too many computers using it so far, but Microsoft is getting Windows 11 ready for use.
Widgets. Includes a redesigned launcher that allows you to preview a widget before pinning it. Rumors continue about the ability for users to place widgets on the desktop, but we haven’t seen such a capability in Moments 3. The default dashboard view will now feature a larger layout with dedicated space for user-pinned apps and a custom designed feed. This will highlight the news feed and users’ personal collection of widgets.
OneDrive. Microsoft’s cloud storage service client recently revamped its interface in Windows 11 and now a small dedicated section has been added where it shows a better breakdown of stored content for subscribers who use it.
Windows 365. Another internal service (Windows in the cloud) that Microsoft wants to promote and for this version the “Windows 365 Boot” function is added, which allows you to log in directly to a PC in the cloud and specify that a specific PC is going to be used to it as the main experience.
Isolation for Win32 applications. Microsoft will launch in preview the ability to isolate Win32 applications and with it help prevent applications from having unexpected or unauthorized access to critical internal Windows subsystems, minimizing damage if an application is compromised, and improving the overall security of equipment.
How to install Windows 11 Moments 3
This build has been tested for the past few months on the Insider channel, but taking into account that every major Windows update, in addition to solving many previous bugs, causes new ones, Microsoft is committed to a gradual rollout to limit them.
Thus, the version will only be available (for now) as an option for users who actively choose to install it. If this is your case, you can do it by accessing the general Configuration tool> Windows Update, search for available updates and then install the version.
If there are no serious issues, Microsoft will roll out the version to all Windows 11 users. in the next monthly system update, on Tuesday, June 13. Moments 3 will be available on Windows Update and, we assume, from then on the update version available on the Windows 11 website and ISO images for clean installations or virtual machines that are so far running Windows 11 22H2 will also be updated. .
