As Earth Day takes place this Saturday, April 22, 2023, Microsoft is presenting the Xbox Remix Special Edition for the occasion, a new Xbox controller made with recycled materials.
Since a few months, Microsoft is working to reduce the environmental footprint of its Xbox division. These efforts have resulted in particular in the deployment of an update on the Xbox Series X/S in January 2023 dedicated to reducing the energy consumption of your console.
Since this update, it is for example possible to fix the launch of your downloads during off-peak hours. If your console is connected to the internet, it will analyze regional data to power itself through renewable energy.
Microsoft launches a controller made with recycled materials
And while Earth Day will be held this Saturday, April 22, 2023, Microsoft has decided to go further in its sustainable development approach. Indeed, the manufacturer has just presented this Wednesday, April 5, 2023 Xbox Remix Special Editiona whole new controller made from recycled materials.
“This year, we’ve designed an Xbox controller made from recycled plastics, one-third of which are regranulated or regenerated materials. Using these recycled resins results in singular Earth-like tones with subtle variations, swirls, marks and different textures, giving each Remix Special Edition a unique appearance.” writes Microsoft on its official website.
Headlight covers, old CDs and Xbox One controllers
As the Redmond firm explains, these resins are made of recycled materials such as headlight covers, water containers or even old CDs. The manufacturer also uses various components from Xbox One controllers.
On the design side, this Xbox Remix Special Edition has its little effect, especially with different shades of green and this topographic pattern on slice buttons, triggers and handles. According to Microsoft, this is a reference “to the ever-changing landscapes of the Earth”.

Of course, the project wouldn’t really make sense if this controller used disposable batteries. that’s why Microsoft has decided to equip it with an included rechargeable battery. According to the manufacturer, charging for up to 4 hours will provide up to 30 hours of battery life. We will then find a 3.5 mm jack port on the bottom of the controller to connect any compatible headset.
If you’re seduced by the proposition, the Xbox Remix Special Edition Wireless Controller is already in pre-order at the price of 84.99 € on the Microsoft Store, for delivery from April 18. It will then be available at partner retailers on April 25. Remember that Microsoft launched the Xbox Elite Series Core 2, a high-end controller, in September 2022.
