As of September 14, 2023, Xbox Live Gold, Microsoft’s iconic paid plan, will disappear in favor of a new subscription: Xbox Game Pass Core. For the same price, the XGPC will allow you to benefit from the same advantages (online gaming, reductions and offers, trial periods on certain titles). But it also has a nice surprise in store: access to a catalog of more than thirty games!
As you may know, Xbox Live Gold is preparing to bow out this Thursday, September 14, 2023. This is the end of a historic offer, introduced in 2002 on the very first Xbox. At that time, Microsoft was the first manufacturer to impose a paid subscription for online gaming. A practice since taken up by Sony and Nintendo.
For the Redmond firm therefore, Xbox Live Gold has had its day. As the American company confirmed in July 2023, the formula will disappear in favor of a new version called Xbox Game Pass Core from September 14, 2023. This offer is added to the various Game Pass subscriptions, in entry-level position.
For €6.99 per monthusers will enjoy the same benefits as with Xbox Live Gold, namely:
- access to online gaming
- regular offers and discounts on the Xbox store
- free trial periods on certain recent titles

But that’s not all. Indeed, Microsoft has a nice surprise in store for us with Xbox Game Pass Core: access to a library of more than 30 cult and popular games. Like what Sony offered with the PlayStation Plus Collection, players will be able to install these games on their Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One and enjoy them without a deadline (provided they remain a subscriber).
