More than 60% of developers already work or train in AI-assisted development

AI-assisted development has become an increasingly relevant skill for developers. So much so that it already surpasses other technologies in terms of adoption and training, according to the Developer Nation survey 2023 by Slashdata, conducted among some 30,000 developers from 164 countries. In it you can see that there is a 63% of developers already working with AI assistance in their developmentor who are being trained to use it in their day-to-day programming.

This report also examines developer salary by region. Thus, in North America, the median annual salary for developers is above $100,000, and the median is $75,000 per year. It is followed by Oceania, with an annual average of $89,000, and Western Europe and Israel, with an average of $62,000. All other regions offer a median developer salary of less than $48,000 per year.

In general, 51% of developers believe that it is well paid. 39% believe that they are not, and another 11% believe that they are paid more than they think is fair for the position they occupy. In general, the more experience respondents had, the less paid they felt. According to the study authors, a developer is 7% more likely to feel underpaid for every year of experience he gains.

22% of those who have responded to the survey are women, 3% more than in 2021. The highest proportion of female developers surveyed is in the age range from 25 to 34 years old. The areas with the highest proportion of female developers are virtual reality (with 33%), augmented reality (28%) and games (another 28%).

The lowest percentage of female developers is in backend services (13%), web apps and software as a service (16%) and Industrial IoT (20%). Regarding leadership positions, 14% of the men interviewed were technical team leaders, compared to 8% of the women. 11% of men were CIOs, CTOs or IT managers, compared to 9%.
