Since Netflix began counting new subscribers in 2014, Netflix’s user base has grown steadily for over a decade. However, in the first two quarters of 2022, Netflix saw a decline in subscriber net additions for the first time, and that decline may well continue in the coming months.

After surveying 1,000 Americans about their streaming habits, streaming service subscriptions, and feelings about Netflix in particular, Reviews.org found thatone person in four plans to cancel their subscription to the American giant before the end of the year.

Netflix could soon lose some of its subscribers due to price hikes

According to the survey, more than a third (40.49%) of those planning to quit soon say it’s because of the rising cost of Netflix subscriptions. Indeed, Netflix’s average monthly cost is now the highest of all major streaming services at $17.99 per month, but other major players such as Disney+ are also planning to raise prices soon. These regular price increases coupled with inflation are therefore likely to motivate thousands of Americans to turn to the competition.

The other major source of dissatisfaction is the lack of content on the platform, which nevertheless has thousands of works, each more different than the next. 1 in 3 respondents said Netflix no longer offers the shows they want to watch. Additionally, 30% said they use other streaming services more.

Anyway, Netflix stays for now the most popular streaming service with nearly 4 in 5 Americans (77%) currently subscribed to the platform. In addition, 70% say they use Netflix most often. Apple TV+ closes the ranking with a rather disappointing score of only 2.70%. Netflix is expected to recover quickly by hitting a smaller target following the release of its new cheaper subscription with ads.
