News VOD 44/21: ‘The Green Knight’, a tale of the crown

VOD news brings you the best releases of the week on Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime Video … And it is sad, but true, in the week that HBO Max opens in Spain, there is no trace of the platform in what follows. In fact, this edition is going to be short, as well as an accurate cut with which to slice its head, let’s say for example a demon named The green knight, which directs us directly to …

Towards Amazon Prime Video, yes: that’s where it just premiered The green knight, although depending on your tastes and concerns, you may prefer another of the things that the platform adds this week. For example, a lot of anime.

The green knight is the story of Sir Gawain, son of Morgause and nephew of King Arthur himself and if it sounds beyond the Arthurian legends, it is because a film was already made in the eighties of last century, with the famous Sean Connery, whose death an almost exact year is celebrated today, as a leading role, which is not the protagonist. In fact, you can find the classic version of The green knight in Prime Video, although if you did not see it at the time and you want to revisit it for nostalgia or make the comparison, stay better with the new one.

And is that The green knight that Amazon premieres, an original film that they did not produce, but with which they have remained at the stroke of the checkbook, is a very enjoyable fabled fantasy tale, almost entirely in charge of the British Dev Patel (Chappie. The Last Airbender). The green knight remember in passing things like Excalibur And till Sleepy hollow, without reaching their level, but maintaining their own. Don’t expect the great epic adventure of the year either (that’s Dune), but put it on your list because for a dark and humid night, it does well.

Of course, if you are one of those who does not like fantasy, but fanfare, Amazon also premieres -and this is its own original production- Maradona: blessed dream, the series that recreates the life of the Argentine soccer player, whose first anniversary since his death will also be celebrated shortly.

We go through the Netflix menu for this week, of which we highlight only one content, but watch out for the rest: especially, Colin in black and white, which is endorsed by critics. Nevertheless…

However, highlighting a Netflix launch this week, let it be Army of thieves, prequel to the nefarious Army of the dead with zomis in the background, but focused on the aspect of robberies and directed by one of the protagonists of the previous one and not by Zack Snyder, although it is located in the same universe, obviously. Criticism is receiving something better than the original, which is not surprising because it was worse to do so.
