New macOS Archive Utility Vulnerability But Easy Fix

That Macs don’t have viruses, by now you know that it’s not true. What it is, is to say that it is a little more difficult than other operating systems due to the macOS architecture. But that difficulty is a plus for those who like challenges and enjoy attacking and finding vulnerabilities within software. Various malwares are usually found on Macs, and end up being repaired. The case at hand is a perfect example of how we can get rid of bad consequences if we keep our equipment updated to the latest versions. The bug in Gatekeeper it is fixed by installing the latest macOS updates.

The macOS operating system includes a security technology called Gatekeeper. If the purpose is to confirm that only trusted software can run on Macs. When a user downloads and opens an app, installed from outside the App Store, Gatekeeper verifies that the software comes from an identified developer, is certified by Apple, and hasn’t been tampered with. To provide an added security, the protocol is to request the user’s approval before opening downloaded software for the first time to ensure that the user has not been deceived.

The vulnerability found refers to the fact that on certain occasions that software that we install on Macs, manage to bypass the Gatekeeper from running and therefore, in the end, harmful software for macOS is installed.

This bug was found in May, but it has not been made public until now. In fact, it is the normal way. The interested party, Apple, is committed first to resolve it as soon as possible, as it has been. Manzana fixed it by building CVE-2022-32910 and was included in macOS Monterey 12.5.
