Although the latest NVIDIA event focused more on the presentation of devices for the business and professional field, we cannot fail to point out the arrival of the new RTX A5500 graphics cards, a new model that arrives in the PCI-Express form factor AIC in addition to GPU for laptops.
Based on the “Ampere” graphics architecture, the RTX A5500 AIC features NVIDIA’s largest graphics silicon, the “GA102”. It features 10,240 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor cores, 80 RT cores, and 24 GB of ECC GDDR6 memory on a 384-bit wide memory interface. The card uses aggressive power management, with typical board power rated at just 230W. You also get an NVLink interface and four DisplayPort 1.4 output connectors.
In this way, the RTX A5500 is placed one step below the current flagship of this range, the RTX A6000, which has an impressive 48 GB of memory. Thus, for comparison, we find characteristics equivalent to the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Mobile for gaming, oriented in this case for a more focused use in the professional field, equipping double the memory, but without GDDR6X.
For its part, the RTX A5500 for laptops is aimed at mobile workstations and is based on the “GA103” silicon, with 7424 CUDA cores, 232 Tensor cores, 58 RT cores, and 16 GB of ECC GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit wide memory interface. NVIDIA has given this product some Max-Q power and thermal optimization, with typical graphics power rated in the 80W to 160W range. This is NVIDIA’s most powerful mobile pro-vis solution, with a slot higher than the RTX A4500. It is worth noting here that both products use ECC GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X.
