NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti, first details of its performance and TDP

The long-awaited cherry on the cake of the so-called RTX 30 is finally available on the market after a small delay. And it is that the RTX 3090 Ti is something that we have been waiting for to appear for almost two years. NVIDIA’s most powerful graphics card to date is finally in the hands of early adopters. What is the performance and TDP of the NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti?

One of the things that made many of us think that we were going to see an RTX 3090 SUPER or an RTX 3090 Ti was the fact that the RTX 3090 did not use the full configuration of the GA102 graphics chip or GPU that presides over the graphics card. The other clue was the new power connector, which pointed to higher consumption and thus a higher clock speed.

In other words, from the beginning, the existence of an NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti with higher performance and TDP than the models that appeared in 2020 has always been there. Although NVIDIA took a long time to show this graphics card as an official product and we did not see it as an officially presented product until CES, which was held in January of the current year. That is to say, almost 18 months after the launch of the original RTX 3090.

This is the performance and consumption of the NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti

As usually happens with each new major release of its graphics cards, we have from NVIDIA the so-called Founders Edition, which is sold directly by Jensen Huang’s company and repeats the industrial design of the non-Ti model. Of course, this is not a novelty from the moment we saw it presented at its CES conference, but we can finally admire it in its complete packaging.

Although what interests us are things like its energy consumption and its performance. Well, it’s about the first graphics card that appears on the market in using the 12+4 pin 12VHPWR connector. The same one that can grant powers of 150 W, 300 W, 450 W and 600 W by itself. The power that the NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti takes? 480W, which means that it additionally draws 30 W from the main PCI Express connector. Apparently, it would not be an exclusive consumption of the Founders Edition since the ASUS, MSI and Colorful variants also move for the same figure.

NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti Performance

The performance of the graphics card? Well, we have to start from the fact that it is the same chip as the RTX 3090 and we know that from certain speeds and due to the high voltage, each MHz that is increased is more and more expensive. How much does 130 W more power give us? Well, from what it seems, the yield gained would be between 5% and 10% compared to the RTX 3090 when moving games to 4Kwhich would go to show that it would be the worst graphics card of its generation in terms of performance per consumed watt.
