Our readers speak: which processor do you use and why?

The processor is the brain of the computer, that is, it is one of the most important components of any PC, because it works like a general purpose solution and is responsible for converting all the signals and instructions it receives into others that can be interpreted by the rest of the components. So, for example, the processor it is the one that “feeds” the GPU so that it can carry out its work normally, and it also intervenes in tasks as simple as opening a folder or file, and in others as complex as rendering an image in parallel.

That “central” role that it plays in any PC means that in the end the performance of this highly dependent on the processor, and that other components also have a strong dependency on it. Continuing with the previous example, a high-performance GPU can be seriously hampered in games by a low-power processor, especially if we move in resolutions lower than 4K, because this will not be able to work at the pace that it needs to throw a high rate of frames per second.

Choosing the processor of our PC is one of the most important decisions that we will have to make, and this It will depend largely on our budget and our needs.. In my case, it was quite clear to me when I renewed my computer for the last time, I needed a chip with high single-thread performance to be able to play current games smoothly, and I did not need more than 8 cores and 16 threads, since I was not going to use applications demanding multithreading.

With all that in mind the decision was not complicated, in the end I got a Ryzen 7 5800X because it met all those requirements and also had very low consumption and its temperatures were very good. The price was higher than the equivalent model from the previous generation, but the difference between the two in games made me go for the model based on Zen 3.

This processor is the one I use today in my personal computer, and I am very happy with it, since it has given me excellent performance and has more than met my expectations. With the arrival of the Ryzen 7000 and the Core Gen13 it has been clearly surpassed, but I do not plan to change my configuration in the short or medium term, because that processor It still more than meets my needs.

Now it’s up to you, what processor do you use and why? The comments are yours, we read each other.
