Philips presents a dual screen monitor that combines an LCD panel with an electronic ink

The Philips firm has surprised us with a new monitor that has a double screen configuration, based on a LCD type main panel with a size of 23.8 inches and accompanied by a e-ink panel that has a size of 13.3 inchesand that as we can see in the attached image is integrated into the side.

It is an interesting approach because this Philips monitor allows us to enjoy the best of both worlds. On the one hand we have the LCD panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixelswhich translates into a high pixel density per inch, and which is also capable of reproducing a 99.8% of the sRGB color spacewhich means that they offer a good level of performance, their viewing angles are 178 degrees, they have a refresh rate of 75 Hz and their response time is 4 ms.

As for the electronic ink screen we have a 1,200 x 1,600 pixel resolution. The panel uses grayscale, has a 3:4 format and an anti-glare finish, as well as a front light that can illuminate the screen so that we can use it without problems even in low ambient light conditions. This screen is integrated with a hinge that allows you to change its orientation to make it easier to read documents and interact with it, something that is undoubtedly an excellent idea.

Regarding connectivity, we haves one DisplayPort 1.2 and one USB Type-C on the LCD panel side, plus four USB Type-A ports. On the side of the electronic ink panel we only have a USB Type-C port, as we can see in the image that shows the back of this monitor. It is compatible with both Windows-based computers and those using macOS, and is priced at 850 dollars.

With such a monitor we could use the electronic ink panel to read long and complex documents and texts more comfortably. This would greatly reduce eyestrain, and could greatly improve productivity. The LCD panel could be used as a conventional monitor, that’s clear. At the moment this new Philips monitor is only available in China, and unfortunately we don’t know if it will reach Europe, but it is certainly worth mentioning for how innovative and interesting it is.
