YouPorn and RedTube are in the home stretch to get their sites blocked in France. Indeed, ARCOM has just announced the referral to the President of the Paris Court of Justice to order ISPs to prevent access to the two X sites. At the same time, three other pornographic platforms are threatened.
The war between the government and porn sites continues. At the beginning of February 2023, the Minister in charge of Digital was formal: this year will mark the end of access to pornographic sites by minors.
YouPorn and RedTubetwo heavyweights of free online porn, could well be the first victims. Indeed, ARCOM has just announced in a press release published on April 12, 2023 referral to the President of the Paris Court of Justice.
YouPorn and RedTube soon inaccessible in France
The institution demands blocking of access to both sites by major ISPs. Indeed, the owner of YouPorn and RedTube, namely the Cypriot company MG Freesites, has not taken any measures to implement a check on the age of visitors. And this despite repeated injunctions from ARCOM.
Let us recall in passing that MG Freesites belongs to the world leader in porn Mindgeek, editor in particular of Pornhub, another site in the crosshairs of ARCOM.
Three other X sites in the hot seat
But that’s not all. In his press release, the net constable gives formal notice to three additional X sites for the lack of a visitor age verification system. These platforms, namely Folieporno, BUBBAPORN and xHamsterLivenow have 15 days to comply and to adapt appropriate measures to control the age of each Internet user connecting in France.
For the time being, no control is carried out by these sites. On two of them, we find the famous question on the honor “Are you 18 years old” passable in one click. On the 3rd site, it’s just an open door.
If nothing is done within the time limit set by ARCOM, the institution can then move up a gear by taking legal action to to obtain the blocking of sites by Internet service providers. As with YouPorn and RedTube, the three X sites will be inaccessible unless to use a VPN and relocate its IP address outside France.
