Project Magi, Google redoes its search engine

Although Google has diversified its product and service offerings exponentially over the years, there are many reasons why its search engine continues to be one of the great jewels in the crown. And no, I’m not just talking about the historical and sentimental value that can be granted, behind closed doors, to the company’s first service, the one that started it all and with which they managed to wipe out the entire ecosystem of web directories that existed until the moment, completely reinventing the concept of Internet search.

That reason may have some weight, but as I said there are many others, from the prestige it has for many users, which is why they continue to use it daily over other options and, of course, something that comes directly from this. , the huge benefits it provides to technology. Only with the income generated by the search engine from Android and iOS, an accumulated amount of more than 20,000 million dollars a year is already exceeded. I repeat, only from mobile platforms.

Google has enjoyed, for years, a more than consolidated position, with no rivals that managed to overshadow it no matter how hard they tried. However, the arrival of ChatGPT, the new Bing and other models and search engines that have been agile in incorporating artificial intelligence, for the first time the company’s search engine is no longer seen by many as the most outstanding tool within its market. It is true that Google has responded with Bard, but while its rivals already offer access to their new services to all those users who want it, the deployment of Bard is proving to be much slower.

Project Magi, Google redoes its search engine

The problem is that, although Google announces the general availability of Bard in a short time (which is what should happen), the image of its rivals, and especially Bing, has gained many integers in recent months, so the launch of your own chatbot might not be enough anymore. And it seems that they are working on it because, according to what we can read in The New York Times, Google is working on a complete redesign of the operation of its search engine.

It is not much what their sources have revealed to said newspaper, but it has come out that there is a large multidisciplinary team working constantly in what is known internally as Magi Projectand that it is constantly evaluating new ideas on how to take AI beyond a chatbot, with objectives such as providing a more personalized search experience, anticipating user needs, and other similar premises.

This, if it came from other companies, could sound a bit like science fiction, but I must remember that we are talking about Google, a company that has both the potential and the means to do so and, something even more important at this time, also with the motivation to jump into the pool. Over the last few months, with Bard, his attitude has been quite conservative, which has cost him points. There is less than a month left until the Google I / O 2023 takes place, from which until now we expected announcements regarding Bard. However, if the company wants to recover some of the lost splendor, it should go all out and really surprise us with the news that they are considering within Magi.
