Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipsets

Qualcomm’s family of mobile chipsets is getting more robust. That’s because this Friday (20), the leading chip maker in the cellphone market in 2021 announced two new SoCs (system-on-a-chip) for high-end Android smartphones: the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 it’s the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

As you can imagine, the new mobile platforms promise a lot of power and performance optimizations for premium users. In fact, Qualcomm reinforces that both products will offer breathtaking performances, in the most diverse experiences and uses of chipsets.

“In the mobile segment, our primary focus is on delivering new and innovative features and technologies to the industry and to our customers’ leading devices. We implemented these features first on our Snapdragon 8-series and then cascaded through our mobile roadmap,” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Devices at Qualcomm Technologies. “The new Snapdragon 8+ and 7 Gen 1 offer innovative user experiences at their respective levels.”

Power and performance. These are the main features of Qualcomm’s newest leader in mobile chipsets. Its Kryo CPU promises up to 10% faster processing — peaking at 3.2 GHz — and up to 30% power efficiency improvements than the 8 Gen 1. Its enhanced Adreno GPU offers faster speeds and power reduction for better gaming experiences.

The SoC also includes two exciting features: Elite Gaming and the latest Snapdragon Sight technologies. The former brings ultra-smooth responsiveness and color-rich HDR scenes with the highest visual quality, while the latter enables 8K HDR video recording.

Not to mention advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools, support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 connections, Snapdragon Sound technology for immersive and high-quality audio, among other news. All this on a single chip.

When arrives? According to Qualcomm, the chipset will be adopted by major OEMs and global brands (such as Asus ROG, Motorola, Realme, Xiaomi, among others) in commercial devices that should be available on the market. third quarter of 2022.

The other chipset announced was the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Like the 8+ Gen 1, it is powered by an Adreno GPU and a Kryo CPU. The result of this is translated into more than 20% faster graphic renderings, optimizing mainly gamers experiences.

Speaking of gaming, Adreno Frame Motion Engine can double the frame rate in high-end content without increasing power consumption. The SoC also supports Quad HD+ displays and amplified audio for much more immersive gaming.
