The Samsung Z Flip 5 has at least one larger screen than its predecessor. If the screen Internal AMOLED measures 6.7 inches for a definition of 2640 x 1080 pixels, like the Z Flip 4, I’external screen has a diagonal of 3.4 inches with a definition of 720 x 748 pixels. To deliver such a large external display, Samsung had to make a number of concessions. IF you are particularly concerned about sustainability, we regret to inform you that the Samsung Z Flip 5 is not IP68 certified. If it is effectively waterproof up to 1m deep for 30 minutes, it is not dust resistant.
What is the new design of the Samsung Z Flip 5?
The widening of the new outer screen has the effect of making the Galaxy Z Flip 5 more imposing; it’s logic. And as a result, the layout of the camera modules was changed, and the designers of the company had to make a cutout in the back of the device.
The most notable change around the Samsung Z Flip 5 can be seen, not from the front, but from the side. The latest offspring of the Flip family benefits from a new hinge. The Samsung Z Flip 5 folds completely flat, and does not show any light. There is no longer any space between the two flaps when the screen is folded back on itself.
How does the Samsung Z Flip 5 perform?
As soon as they were announced, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 went on the grill of the testers, who immediately passed them to the test benches. THE Z Flip 5 features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcommand as with the Z Fold 5, the manufacturer is skipping a more powerful SoC like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2.
That said, as often with Samsung, it’s not the classic version, but a tailor-made version with always 8 GB on the entry level. According to the first measurements made by GSM Arena, the performance is indeed better than that of the company’s flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, on certain points, but in a rather discreet way, it must be admitted.
What is the battery life of the Samsung Z Flip 5?
The specifications have not yet filtered, but, in all likelihood, the autonomy should be very close to a Galaxy S23 with a 3700 mAh battery. Indeed, if the capacity of the battery remains unchanged compared to the previous generation, the power consumption should be more measured.
As on the Z Flip 4, a 3700mAh battery should give energy to the two touchscreens of the Z Flip 5. Thanks to software improvements from Samsung, the two phones would display an equivalent autonomy despite the much larger external screen. As indicated just before, the South Korean juggernaut would rely on a second generation Snapdragon 8, offering a good power/power consumption compromise. That said, and it’s not sure and certain that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will deliver on all of its power-efficiency promises, so all of these numbers have to be put to the test.
In terms of charging, the Samsung Z Flip 5 does not bring any change compared to its predecessor from a year ago. Always a limit of 25W fast charging, wired with a charger not included in the box. This is very little when you look at the competition, especially Chinese. The Korean manufacturer does not make much effort to offer 60W or 100W charging on its flagship models. The Samsung Z Flip 5 is once again very close to a Galaxy S23.
Is the Samsung Z Flip 5 good in photos?
The narrowness of the form factor of smartphones with foldable screens prevents the integration of large sensors. It will therefore be necessary to be satisfied with two modest 12 million pixel sensors on the back and a 12 million pixel “selfie” sensor. That’s dim compared to the 100 million pixels and even more found on other smartphones. Samsung keeps almost the same resolution as the previous generation for the rear sensors as before.
