On the occasion of the 2022 Paris Motor Show, Renault lifted the veil on the 4Ever Trophy, the 100% electric version of its legendary 4L. This concept car allows us to discover the design of the future electric 4L which will be launched in 2025. Well, imagine that the city car will come back in the form of a small SUV!
As you may know, to further encourage users to go electric, Renault has decided to bet on nostalgia by revisiting some of its greatest classics. This is why in January 2021 the diamond brand announced the return to electric motorization of the 4L, the R5 and the Super 5.
At the start of October 2022, Renault spilled the beans: the public will be able to discover this new version of the mythical 4L during the 89th Paris Motor Show 2022. And precisely, the show has just opened its doors this Monday, October 17, 2022. Something promised, something due, the French manufacturer has lifted the veil on the 4Ever Trophya concept car that pays homage to the original Renault 4L.
Renault unveils the 4Ever Trophy, a taste of the electric 4L
“Thirty years after production ceased, Renault is unveiling a modern and electric interpretation of its iconic Renault 4 at the 2022 Paris Motor Show: 4Ever Trophy. This show-car in light adventurer configuration celebrates the 25th anniversary of the 4L Trophy solidarity raid. It foreshadows a future 100% electric B-segment SUV, which will be marketed in 2025, and produced in France, at the Manufacture de Maubeuge, within the Electricity division”. specify the brand.
And yes, you read correctly, the upcoming 100% electric Renault 4L will take the form of a small SUV, around 4.15 meters in length. According to the statement of the manufacturer, the concept presented at the show would be approximately 95% comparable to the final model intended for production. However, the designers are happy to give a rally car look to this show car.
Being thought of as a nod to the 4L Trophy used during the eponymous humanitarian rally-raid, this is why we find on the 4Ever Trophy a raised ground clearance, massive 19-inch wheelsa spare wheel housed on the carbon roof rack, or even a shovel and sand removal plates on the top of the tailgate.

An almost finalized design for the 4L electric “SUV”
Of course, you will not find these accessories on the final version, as Gilles Vidal, Renault designer, explained to our colleagues atClean Automotive. On the other hand, it must be considered that the general shape, with this flat bonnet, the rear at a right angle, or even the 3rd trapezoidal side window, will make integral part of the final design.
As said above, the electric Renault 4L will be manufactured at the Maubeuge site. It will therefore be designed 100% in France, in accordance with Renault’s desire to concentrate the production of its electric cars in France with the Electricity division.
Like the future R5, the new 4L will be based on the CMF-BEV platform, which uses 50% of the components of the CFM-B platform used on the brand’s thermal vehicles. The goal is displayed: reduce costs by using the same parts on electric and thermal platforms. From what we have seen, the concept embeds a 100 kW motor and a battery of 42kW capacity.
Unfortunately, for the rest of the technical details on its engine, its recharging, its various equipment, its proposed versions or its price, we will have to wait a long time. Logic, the car is not expected before 2025.
