Rooteco closes a round of 300,000 euros and markets its biofertilizers

Rooteco has recently closed a seed round of financing worth 300,000 euros in which the Institute for Business Competitiveness of Castilla y León (ICE) and Sodical Instituto Financiero de Castilla y León have participated.

rooteco was born in Palencia with the aim of improving productivity and agricultural performance in a sustainable way with the environment. The agrotech company produces and sells biofertilizers and biostimulants to large agricultural operators such as manufacturers, associations and cooperatives; which ultimately provide to farmers and landowners.

Rooteco has recently launched its agricultural products to the Spanish market, where it expects to consolidate in 2023. Its goal is to expand throughout Europe in 2024 and internationally in 2025. To boost this business growth, Rooteco will open a series A round this month, February 2023.

The problem of the agricultural sector

Most farmers resort to the use of Chemical fertilizers to combat the usual stress of crops and thus maintain their productivity. However, these products cause soil contamination in the long term, which ends up leading to even more stress and loss of productivity, which in turn is combated with more chemicals to restore productivity in the short term. This cycle is unsustainable at an agricultural, environmental and economic level, according to the vision of the company.

Rootco’s solution

To solve this problem, Rooteco selects, isolates, multiplies and sells microorganisms registered as biofertilizers or biostimulants, created from its own R&D and pioneering technology that allows it to obtain strains with maximum efficiency.

The founder and CEO of Rooteco, David Villagrá, explains that “Thanks to our research and development (R&D) work, we have been able to obtain our own highly efficient strains from the most remote places in the world geography. We cannot say that we have invented the wheel, but we do have our own wheel, and this is the differential factor”.

Thanks to this high technological component, the company has been awarded several distinctions in its first year of activity: Surcos Award for Innovation by Castilla León TV, award for the most innovative company by El Mundo CyL, and Award for Innovation, Quality and R&D by the Chamber of Commerce of Palencia
