Steam Deck exceeds 10,000 supported games

It’s been almost ten months since we last posted about the growth of the “official” Steam Deck catalogue. Then, the Valve console exceeded 5,000 compatible games, a milestone that could not be continued just like that and we are at it, once the number has doubled.

That is to say, Steam Deck already has more than 10,000 compatible gamesall according to the SteamDB data on which we have relied from the beginning of this calculation that began before the device even saw the light of day, and that we continue to cover as the different milestones were met: 1,000, 2,000, 2,500 and the aforementioned 5,000, at which point we made a point and aside because it was not a plan.

And here we are, ten months later, echoing the 10,000 compatible games for Steam Deck because beyond the number, what surrounds it is interesting. It shows, for example, what it has cost to reach one or the other amount: if the console went on sale on March 1, 2022, it reached 5,000 compatible titles in September of that same year, just six months later.

Reaching 10,000 compatible games for Steam Deck, therefore, it has cost them four more months and with nuances, despite the fact that when we talk about Steam Deck, we do so in a console only half, since after all it is a PC and its catalog is based on that, on PC games. Be that as it may, it is a particular device and that is how we continue to treat it.

Steam Deck Compatible Games

It should be remembered that Steam Deck uses a Linux-based operating system, but the bulk of its catalog is nourished by Windows games. Not only that: there are more Linux games available on Steam than Steam Deck can count as its own, due to Valve’s quality policies. Or, to put it another way, the potential Steam Deck catalog is much, much larger than the 10,000 titles in question.

That policy includes the explicit testing of each game, which will later be labeled as not supported, playable and verifiedbeing these last two groups where the games compatible with the console are found, according to the standards that Valve manages: the playable ones are those that work well, but may have some fault or not be well adapted to the screen and controls of the device, while that the verified ones are those that, in addition to working correctly, are adapted to offer the best experience on Steam Deck.

The numbers as of today, always according to SteamDB data, are:

  • 6,533 playable.
  • 3,472 verified.
  • 3.110 not supported.

The most curious thing about the case is that although at first the computation between playable and verified titles favored the latter, the trend changed once the catalog accumulated several thousand. Despite this, it does not seem that, with the possibilities offered by the console, it is a reason for resentment. Without going any further, Steam Deck can boast a compatibility that covers 75% of the most popular games on Steam. It’s not bad at all.

The most important thing, however, is not how much, but the fact that: what titles are made available to Steam Deck users and in that sense, there are not many reasons to complain either, since many of the great games that are coming out achieve a good level of compatibility with the console in record time. Recent examples of them are Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart, Age of Wonders 4, The Last of Us, Street Fighter 6

By the way, the milestone is met coinciding with the Steam Summer Sale, where in addition to thousands of games you can find the same Steam Deck at a discount, something that only happens a few times a year.
