Lord of the Rings: Gollum Takes Down His Studio, Daedalic Entertainment

Lord of the Rings: Gollum It has been one more of the failed launches that we have experienced in this first half of 2023. It is true that practically every year there is a release of this type, but at least in my personal perception, the last two or three years have been especially intense in this regard. However, in a few cases (actually, only one clear one comes to mind), we have seen how it is possible to redeem yourself and offer a great game. And yes, I mean Cyberpunk 2077.

To achieve this, it is known that CD Projekt RED hHe had to turn, for a long time, to fix everything that was wrong, as well as incorporating at least part of what was initially promised. It is true that the promised life in the vertical (i.e. the enormous amount of content and elements in the buildings) has never quite been what we were sold before its launch, but hey, we can turn a blind eye, since evolution of the title, since its launch in 2020, has been spectacular, something to which the assumption that the previous generation of consoles was seriously hindering its development and its possibilities has contributed in large part.

Cyberpunk 2077 had bugs and was missing elements, but from the first moment it did show possibilities (which have been confirmed over time), something that has not happened with Lord of the Rings: Gollum, if he were a six-legged table, he would limp on seven.. Technically it’s a disaster, argumentatively it’s only two points above the catalog purchase script, the mechanics, in addition to being limited, are absurd, and worst of all, the only way to fix it to make it a good game would be to go back to begin. Yes, from scratch. It is an unsolvable mess.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum Takes Down His Studio, Daedalic Entertainment

His studio had to post an apology after the launch, saying in it that he had taken good note of all the feedback and was already working on fixing the issues. This was a little over a month ago, but we are still in the same situation. And, as we can read in DSOG, already We can’t wait for Lord of the Rings: Gollum redemption as Daedalic Entertainment has announced the closure of its development department. Thus, we must hope that they at least fix the bugs, but of course it is clear that there will be no expansions or improvements in the future.

The good news, if you are a follower of the universe created by Tolkien and this type of product turns your stomach, is that the closure of the Daedalic Entertainment studio translates into the cancellation of the project of another title based on The Lord of the Rings that was planned for the future. And it is that, seen what they have done with Lord of the Rings: Gollum, it is scary to think what that future development could have been.

Daedalic Entertainment does not disappear as a company, but from now on it will only act as distributor-publisher of titles developed by third parties, an activity in which he already has experience and in which he has not done so badly in the past.
