Synology DSM 7.2, the best system for NAS is updated

Synology has introduced DSM 7.2, the new version of its operating system for NAS offering innovations in immutable storage and backup, fast full-volume encryption, performance enhancements, tighter access controls, and storage planning capabilities. The idea is to improve the control, management and security of data that does not stop increasing.

NAS owners know the importance of an operating system that is capable of taking advantage of their storage and network devices. Synology has just presented its update, the DiskStation Manager, which is considered to be one of the best on the market and, together with its very complete ecosystem of applications, deserves the purchase of a device from this manufacturer.

DSM 7.2, news

The new version includes improvements throughout the ecosystem, including applications and services. Synology delivers it free of charge for all NAS owners and among the novelties we can highlight:

Adaptive login protection

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is usually not enabled. Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication (AMFA) now requires confirmation when accessing DSM administrator accounts from untrusted external connections.

New defenses against attacks

An expanded autoblock in DSM 7.2 covers SMB connections, significantly reducing the chance of successful brute force attacks against weaker credentials. QuickConnect servers now globally ban IP addresses after multiple failed authentication attempts.

Full volume encryption

Full Volume Encryption helps protect shared folders, LUNs, and packet data from physical theft of the system and drives, while increasing speed, security, and convenience.

More effective direct notifications

More configuration options help fine-tune notification rules to ensure delivery of critical messages:

  • Unlimited email recipients per rule.
  • Set custom delivery channels per rule (email, push service, webhook)

only one account

Expanded support for SSO Server and the SSO client protocol in DSM 7.2 enables convenient single account access regardless of which provider is used.

Increased performance and efficiency

DSM 7.2 adds support for M.2 NVMe SSD storage volumes in more systems, allowing more flexible use of the integrated M.2 NVMe slots. SSD deduplication sees improvements with the implementation of inline zero block deletion, providing up to 25% faster times by reducing the amount of data that must be stored. With block-level storage technology, initial full-system backups are twice as fast.

Write once, store forever

Technically enforces data retention policies with WriteOnce shared folders, which are locked from modification or deletion. Protect folders for a defined period or disable changes forever.

Checkmate ransomware

Snapshot Replication’s new Immutable Snapshots feature securely stores immutable copies of your data to prevent theft of administrator credentials.

DSM 7.2 is now freely available for Synology NAS at the manufacturer’s download center. It can also be updated from the same device.
