Synology Launches the SA6400, a Scalable NAS with AMD EPYC CPU

The Synology SA6400 is shaping up to be a very versatile and very interesting NAS. This model offers a total of 12 baysand is designed to seamlessly cover the growing need for unstructured data storage without sacrificing a good level of scalability, while also maintaining a high level of performance.

About this new launch Iván Gento, Synology’s Iberia & Africa marketing executive, has commented:

“The SA6400 is the ideal solution to deal with today’s growing volume of unstructured data. Its expandability allows increase space as data demand grows. This means it is well-suited for file storage or backup in agile and dynamic environments, preparing businesses for future data growth.”

If our storage needs increase there will be no problem, since the Synology SA6400 supports up to eight RX 1223RP expansion units, which would give us a total of 108 storage drive bays. Doing numbers we see that the maximum amount of storage we could get on a single system would be 1.9PB (petabytes), which is a 900% increase over the original maximum capacity of the Synology SA6400, simply impressive.

Jumping into performance, we have a maximum sequential read and write speed of more than 6,500 and 4,000 MB/s, Which translates into total fluidity and a totally optimal experience even with demanding workloads, including those typical of enterprise data centers to those that are common in different sectors within retail.

The Synology SA6400 has 32 GB of DDR4 memory, expandable to 1 TBand comes equipped with a AMD EPYC 7272 processor of 12 cores and 24 threads, which means that it is preparing to withstand the passage of time very well, and that we can expand it when necessary.

At the software and management level, this new NAS also rIt is at a good level and is full of possibilities, because it supports a wide variety of file protocols, enables large-scale access to company resources via the local network or VPN, offers easy access privilege management, thanks to Active Directory integration /LDAP, and works seamlessly with Synology Drive, allowing us to easily create our private cloud

If we talk about security, we see that the Synology SA6400 also has advanced protection features, such as Active Backup Suite, which allows make a security copy Windows, Linux and macOS devices, Hyper-V/VMware virtual machines and Microsoft 365/Google Workspace accounts on the SA6400, giving us the ability to quickly and easily recover them when we need them. This NAS also includes replication automation, data backup, and snapshot services to protect shared folders.

We cannot forget the value set by other features of the Synology SA6400, such as the download center, Synology DSM containers or virtual machines. In this sense, it is important to note that we can run virtual machines and Docker containers on this NAS easily and safely using Docker or Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM).
