TF1 against Canal+: Orange comes to the rescue to resume the broadcasting of the channels

If the negotiations between Canal + and TF1 are currently at a standstill, the front page has obviously found an alternative to resume broadcasting its channels in the clear to TNT Sat subscribers.

It will soon be two months since Canal+ subscribers no longer have access to the TF1 group’s channels in the clear. Remember, it all started with a financial disagreement between the two groups. The encrypted channel notably assured that la Une exploited its dominant position to demand the payment of excessive remuneration for its free channels.

As a result, the 2 million subscribers to the Canal+ TNT Sat satellite service, used in particular to receive DTT channels in white areas, no longer have access since that date to TF1, LCI, TMC, TFX and TF1 Series Films.

The two parties then decided to settle the case before the courts, the aim being for TF1 to achieve a rapid resumption of the broadcasting of its channels on the Canal+ offers. It must be said that these disturbances undermine the audiences of TF1.

After an initial decision in favor of Canal+ handed down by the Paris Commercial Court at the end of September 2022, TF1 also lost its appeal a few days ago. Indeed, the Court of Paris confirmed that the situation between TF1 and Canal+ could not find a solution, before the courts in any case.

TF1 finds an alternative thanks to Orange

Nevertheless, TF1 seems to have found an alternative. As reported by our colleagues on the site Satellifactsthe five TF1 group channels concerned are broadcast by the same Astra satellitein HD and unencrypted via a transponder managed by Globecast, a subsidiary of the operator Orange.

However, it turns out that the TNT Sat satellite receiver is able to receive and broadcast these channels. To do this, subscribers to TNT Sat must carry out a very simple manipulation: a new detection and memorization of channels.

Once done, the channels of the TF1 group will appear again. Certainly, they will not be allocated to the usual numbers, but it will be enough to scroll through the channels to find them one by one. Here are the reception parameters to apply to retrieve these channels:

  • Satellite Astra 19.2° East
  • Frequency: 11377 MHz
  • Polarization: Vertical
  • Symbol Rate (S/R): 22,000
  • FEC: 2/3

However, we hope that TF1 and Canal+ will reach an agreement… But for the moment, this is clearly not on the agenda.
