In today’s article, we will talk about some AirPods Pro tricks so you can enjoy your AirPods Pro even more and fully personalize them. Here I will show you how to get the most out of Apple’s premium headphones
Apple’s AirPods Pro are a significantly improved version of the base AirPods. The basic model allows us to listen to our favorite music and podcasts, talk to Siri, activate some functions simply with a touch, check their battery charge or find them if they are missing.
But also with the Pro models, we can achieve a better fit, improving the audio quality, with an optimized load and other interesting features, such as the Noise Cancellation. In today’s article I bring you some of the AirPods Pro tricks, to get the most out of them
Do the ear cushion fit test
One of the drawbacks of the entry-level AirPods is that they are only one size, do not have ear tips that can be adapted, with an in-ear design that does not necessarily fit correctly for all users. If the fit is not comfortable, AirPods can easily slip out of our ears, even fall out.
The AirPods Pro “correct” this defect by including some pads replace them in different sizes, for small, medium, and large ears, and even the second-generation AirPods Pro offer an extra-small option.
change pads
To change the default ear tips, you simply have to pull them firmly until they come off the base. You will then need to position the new pads so that the center white circle meets the center black circle on the base and finally press until they snap into place.
To help you know which of the three pads is best for you, you will need to make a in-ear fit test. To do this, put a pair of tips on the AirPods Pro.
Then put the AirPods in your ears and on your iPhone follow these steps:
- First on the iPhone go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Then tap on the information icon of your AirPods Pro and tap on the ear cushion fit test
- On the next screen, click Continue and then press the button play. A short music clip will then play.
The app will then tell you if the pads you have fitted are correct, or that you should try a different size pad. Check all three sizes until the app tells you that the AirPods fit correctly in your ear. This section is important not only to be comfortable, but also to have correct noise cancellation.
Rename your AirPods Pro
The name we put on our AirPods Pro will appear a few different places. To change it follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, go to settings > Bluetooth. Now tap on the information icon of your AirPods Pro and then tap on the current name.
- You can then review the existing name or delete it and create a new name. When you’re done, tap Made.
Control music with a press
One of the following AirPods Pro tricks is that we can control some functions from the earphone stems themselves.
In order to do this, you will have to press the stem with your thumb and forefinger until you hear a click. Pressing once will pause/play, pressing twice will skip to the next song, and pressing three times will go back to the beginning of the current song or go to the previous song, depending on where we are.
We can customize the stems
By default, holding down the stem of any of our AirPods Prom will cause them to switch between the noise cancellation mode and transparency, but you can change it. To do this, follow these steps:
- With AirPods Pro on, on your iPhone go to Settings > Bluetooth and click on the information icon next to the AirPods. In the option «Press and hold» AirPods, we can modify their functionality.
We can also customize each earphone independently, we can make the right one invoke Siri when we keep the stem pressed, and the left one switch between different modes, noise cancellation, transparency…
Adjust the volume of the second generation AirPods Pro
The second generation AirPods Pro are an improvement on the previous ones, both in audio quality and noise cancellation.
A new option allows us to adjust the volume by sliding up and down with a sensor located on the stem of the AirPods. To enable it, follow these steps:
- First go to Settings > Bluetooth and click on the i of Information > Accessibility.
- We now enable the slide to adjust the volume and we can adjust the time of the slide as well, to prevent accidental changes.
Activate noise cancellation
AirPods Pro offer two different listening modes that can help us reduce background noise. The function of Noise Cancellation it blocks out virtually all background sounds, so this feature can be useful in a noisy environment where we want to be able to hear our song clearly or get a little more concrete, and the transparency mode.
Transparency mode muffles background noise so you can hear it without it interfering too much with your music. This mode is a good option if we need to continue listening to the environment, a passing car, a phone call, a person speaking…
Switching between noise canceling mode and transparency mode with a long press on the stem of our headphones is very simple, but we must first activate the function.
We can do it from the Control Center and then by pressing the audio control. Tapping the Noise Control icon, then tapping on Noise Cancellation or Transparencyor simply touch Deactivate to disable noise control completely.
You can also go to Settings > Bluetooth, and then touch Noise Cancellation, Off or Transparency in the Noise Control section.
These are some of the AirPods tricks that we have brought in today’s article, but there are many more. If you want me to do a second part, let me know in the comments.
