The first genetic game is Spanish and bears the seal of Adntro

It is increasingly easier to know more about our origins thanks to technological advances. Today it is possible, with a simple saliva sample, to know everything that DNA says about us. With this objective, it was born Inside Geneticsto bridge the gap between genetics, well-being and help democratize access to one’s own genetic code.

Now, the Spanish company has set out to open a new path and make history, for which it has just presented the first genetic game made in the history of humanity.

This is a unique report that combines genetics with mathematics, and has been produced in collaboration with mathematician and content creator Mates Mike.

The rules are based on the «Game of Life“, a tribute to John Conway, a mathematician who imagined a system with three simple rules out of which emerge chaotic patterns that resemble the complexity of life.

This is a very different report from the rest of the content that the company already offers, focused on areas as diverse as discovering the origins, nutrigenetics, prevention and protection against diseases or pharmacogenetics, among others. And that reminds us of other artistic proposals such as the collaboration made with the contemporary artist Felipe Pantone in 2021.

What Adntro offers is a unique game board for each individual based on their DNA, thus making the development of the game totally unpredictable and its final result as unique as your own genetic code.

As Jorge Blom-Dahl Oliver, CTO and co-founder of the company explains: “The dashboard setup selects 7,744 SNPs from your autosomal DNA (chromosomes 1-22) and turns it into an 88×88 cell matrix. It should be noted that in each SNP of the selected ones, if you have a rare genetic variant (compared to the reference genome), your cell appears alive at the beginning of the game”. With this premise we can guarantee that the initial configuration is totally unique and only similar (although never the same) to an immediate relative such as a son.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first DNA-based game ever and an example of the imagination we have at Inside, constantly working to offer our users new and unique ways to explore their genetic code. Only you will be able to see how the board evolves by clicking ‘play’. You will see the number of generations – each evolution of the board – and the number of cells alive at all times”, adds the Spanish scientist.

A single test with results for life

As Guillermo Pérez-Solero, CEO and co-founder of Adntro, states: “Your DNA does not change, but the progress of science is continuous”. In this sense, the company proposes a continuous update, including news and improvements to its platform. “As new GWAS studies come out, we update our calculations to reflect all those scientific advances in your results. Normally, these studies provide more and more accurate information (they are carried out with a greater number of people) and allow previous studies to be adjusted, always improving reliability”.

“Science continues to advance, so certain genetic information, which cannot be interpreted now, may be possible in a few months through a new study, and when that happens we will integrate those variants into our calculations and be able to provide that new information. to all our users. So on our platform you will always have something new to discover about your genetics and it is never out of date”.

In this way, although the test is only carried out once, you will always be able to find out what’s new and the knowledge of the genome It will advance as science does.

“In the coming months we are going to release exclusive content that has never been developed before in history. We will continue to include new diseases in the health section and in the pharmacogenetics part. Furthermore, for the first time we are going to calculate the entropy of DNA”. Blom-Dahl says.
