AMD Ryzen Embedded R2000, new solutions for robotics, artificial vision and industry

AMD has introduced the Ryzen Embedded R2000, a new generation of SoCs designed and optimized specifically to meet the needs of a wide variety of industrial systems, including from robotics to artificial vision, IoT and «thin client». Compared to the previous generation, the Ryzen Embedded R2000 represent a significant qualitative and quantitative leap.

The Ryzen Embedded R2000 integrate CPUs based on the Zen+ architecture and manufactured on the 12nm node, while the previous generation models came with Zen cores based on the 14nm node. This means that the new Ryzen Embedded R2000 not only have more powerful processors, but they are also more efficient, and these double the maximum number of cores, since they are available in configurations that reach 4 cores and 8 threads.

The Ryzen Embedded R2544 is the most powerful chip of this new generation. It has a 4-core, 8-thread CPU at a base frequency of 3.35 GHz, it has a TDP configurable from 35 to 54 watts and it comes with 4 MB of L3 cache. Below it is the Ryzen Embedded R2514, which maintains the same configuration as the previous one but works at 2.1 GHz and has a Configurable TDP from 12 to 35 watts.

The range is closed by the Ryzen Embedded R2314, which has 4 cores and 4 threads at 2.1 GHz and a TDP of 12 to 35 watts, and the Ryzen Embedded R2312, whose CPU is 2 cores and 4 threads at 2.7 GHz, and has a TDP of 12 to 25 watts. All models are accompanied by a Integrated Radeon GPU with 8 graphics cores in the most powerful models, 6 graphics cores in the intermediate model and 3 graphics cores in the Ryzen Embedded R2312.

The Ryzen Embedded R2000 series supports memory DDR4 configured in dual channel at a maximum speed of 3,200 GHzallow to connect up to 4 screens with 4K resolution, are compatible with the PCIe Gen3 standard, work seamlessly with Windows 10, Windows 11 and Linux Ubuntu LTS, have enterprise-class security features, and will be available for 10 years.

For now, AMD has confirmed that the Ryzen Embedded R2544 and Ryzen Embedded R2514 will hit the market in October 2022. The Ryzen Embedded R2314 and Ryzen Embedded R2312 are currently in the production phase, which means that their launch will take place a few months later. We do not yet have a specific date, but everything seems to indicate that they will arrive in the first quarter of 2023, provided that everything goes according to plan.
