The Galaxy S24, which will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will be official in about two months. The main argument of the high-end smartphone compared to its predecessor will be artificial intelligence. The Korean giant is preparing a multimodal generative artificial intelligence which will be entirely managed by the telephone. Its name: Samsung Gauss.
After Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Pixel, the next big launch on the smartphone market obviously concerns Samsung’s Galaxy S24. They are expected from January 2024. That is to say in two months. Rumors point to an official release on January 18, approximately 11 months after the arrival of the Galaxy S23. This is not the first time that Samsung has brought forward the launch of a product: remember that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 were launched this summer several weeks in advance.

The smartphone technical sheet is not yet completely complete, but a sketch is already taking shape. Very inspired by the iPhone, the Galaxy S24 adopts titanium edges and flat faces, even for the Ultra model which will lose its emblematic curved screen. The S23 will therefore be the last to sport one: the end of an era. Screen sizes and battery capacities would be increased for the two smaller models. Their photo configuration should be quite close to previous models.
Samsung will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for AI in the S24
The real big change will be the heart of the system: a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. We have already presented the component to you on the occasion of its officialization. This is an SoC that focuses entirely on artificial intelligence which is present on all stages of the rocket: in the CPUs, in the GPUs, in the triple image coprocessor, in the coprocessor dedicated to signals, etc. Without forgetting the neural coprocessor, “Hexagon”. That of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has been sufficiently reinforced to manage large quantities of data… including certain generative models like Meta’s Llama 2.
Obviously, smartphone manufacturers will take advantage of this power to offer their dedicated generative AI in smartphones equipped with this component. And Samsung will be one of them. According to the message from a well-known leaker posted on the social network X (see opposite), the Korean firm has developed its own generative model. Her name : Gaussin homage to Carl Friedrich Gauss, one of the greatest mathematicians of all time.

Samsung’s AI is called Gauss and will produce text, code and image
According to a visual accompanying the leaker’s message, Gauss is a multimodal generative model. It is capable of producing text, as well as code. And it is capable of producing and editing images. This implies that Samsung plans to integrate image editing tools into its interface, like those presented by Qualcomm during the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This will certainly include zooming out, removing objects or subject (with filling), but also the complete design of an image based on keywords, like what Midjourney or Stable Diffusion offers.
If the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro gave a taste of what generative artificial intelligence in mobile telephony will be like in the coming years, the Galaxy S24 will clearly be the first to democratize complete AI to consumers. See you in January to find out everything about Gauss.
