The outbreak of the Covid has transformed the way of working. If teleworking has become a reality for some companies, it is also becoming in question the divided days. With the arrival of the summer months, more and more companies are betting on intensive working hours, a time that workers use to train. In fact, 67% of Spanish workers take advantage of this time to specialize in their work sector or train in another, according to data from the consulting firm Conecta.
The Ironhack school experts consider continuous learning absolutely necessary for professionals in any sector. Training that can range from sectoral specialization until reskilling: the recycling of professional skills to be able to develop new functions or professions. And it is that, based on data from the McKinsley Global Institute, 14% of current jobs will be obsolete in 2030. In fact, 73% of Spanish workers say that they spend part of their time in training, as pointed out by Infojobs.
The implementation of intensive days is an important boost for training. Currently, based on data provided by Adecco, 14% of Spanish professionals always work part time and, according to the latest survey published by Infojobs, 67% of the experts have an intensive day at some point in the year. In other words, it is a very established reality in Spanish society, which is on the rise after the pandemic. But why not stay for the rest of the year?
From Ironhack they maintain that the labor market tends towards a model of commitment to efficiency and talent, in which the reduced working day offers a series of advantages:
- Productivity: after 7-8 working hours, fatigue takes over the workers. With the arrival of exhaustion, weakness and fatigue, professionals significantly reduce their productive performance. And why do we want workers at half throttle?
- Conciliation: with family, personal, academic life… Employment cannot occupy all of a person’s daily attention. Workers need to spend time with their family, with their friends or cultivating a hobby or professional specialty in order to later be able to perform in their profession.
- Motivation: the implementation of the intensive working day can be a differentiating element of our company, which can cause greater motivation of the employees.
- disconnection: rest is essential in business performance. The intensive day allows you to have time to better cultivate rest. Playing sports, hiking, reading… Encouraging hobbies improves work productivity.
Tiago Santos, General Manager of Ironhack Iberia, points out that “It is necessary to value the performance of the worker and not the time he dedicates to the company. Many times with less time we get more performance. The intensive day allows reconciling work with training, which in the medium-long term generates greater professional benefit”.
That the work model is in the process of change is something that testifies the four-day work week proposal, which is being piloted by the UK Government. Desigual, Good Rebels, Software DelSol… More and more companies are promoting it, but in Spain working time is still valued more than its quality.
