By now we are getting used to seeing new TV series productions being financed by gradually increasing figures: from Game of Thrones to Amzon’s Lord of the Rings, there is a continuous surge in production costs that in some cases make even those related to great Hollywood blockbusters. In this regard also The Last of Us, the TV series based on the video game series from Naughty Dog and Sony, seems to have a huge budget.
HBO has put a huge budget on the plate for The Last of Us TV series
According to reports from Damian Petti, president of the IATSE 212, a sort of Canadian union of film workers, the figures involved in the production are stratospheric:
The show, which will start shooting this week in Canada, is truly monstrous. It has five art directors and employs an army of hundreds of technicians. The preparatory phase of filming, which should last a year, required six months of work just to allow the whole crew to have everything available in Alberta.
This is probably the largest project ever built in Canada. The Last of Us TV series budget far exceeds eight-digit numbers per episode, so there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of economic impact. There are hundreds of show-related businesses benefiting from this huge plethora of work.
These are statements of a certain weight and that, if they were to correspond in all respects to reality, they would see HBO financially committed beyond every possible way on the umpteenth attempt to adapt an IP coming from the world of video games for TV or cinema, something that in the past has never succeeded in a convincing way to almost anyone.
What do we know about the TV series?
Currently we still know few details of the show produced by HBO, apart from the main performers who will be Beautiful Ramsey is Pedro Pascalas Ellie and Joel respectively.
