The Last of Us will have a second season

The Last of Us has become, in its own right, the first great success of this 2023 in terms of series. In the United States alone, the first episode of the series already has 22 million viewers, 4.7 of whom accessed this content as it was released, a number that improved with the premiere of the second episode, which reached an audience of 5.7 million upon its premiere. Social networks have been filled with messages about the latest premiere of HBO Max and, although it is also possible to find negative reviews (with special mention to those who did not find Bella Ramsey pretty enough… yes, those people), in general the opinions are very positive.

This has not caught us by surprise, really, since during the past year we were able to take several glimpses, first in August and later in September, of what HBO was cooking, and since it was known what its release date would be, something that we anticipated in December, January 15 was marked on the calendar of many people: those who have enjoyed PlayStation games, fans of post-apocalyptic and/or zombie content and others, placed quite a few expectations on the adaptation to the small screen from the Naughty Dog franchise. And although it is not common, this time they were not disappointed.

The Last of Us will have a second season

Thus, when the third episode of the third season has not yet been released, WarnerMedia has already confirmed the renewal for a second season of The Last of Us, as we can read in the official statement. In said text, the company celebrates the excellent results achieved by the new series, echoing both the audience data that we have already commented on previously, as well as the positive reviews, with no less than 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and the reviews published on Media like Rolling Stone and Variety. To the point, WarnerMedia affirms that the premiere of The Last of Us on HBO Max has been the second most successful in the history of the platform, only behind House of the Dragon.

The Last of Us is one of those cases, not so common, in which a film adaptation or series of a video game becomes a success. As recent examples we can mention Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, based on the CD Projekt Red title, or Arcane, inspired by the world of League of Legends. In the opposite direction, that is, in adaptations that turned out to be a fiasco, the list is much longeras you know.
