There are many web browsers, but more than 70% of users use the same one: Google Chrome. The search engine giant knew how to arrive on time with renewed and updated software, and in a short time it gained the trust of users. But, even though he is the king, he cannot relax, since his rivals seek to dethrone him with all kinds of techniques, such as the launch of this new mode for edge playersMicrosoft’s browser.
Internet Explorer is long dead. Even a first attempt to succeed him, named “Edge”, also failed. But Microsoft does not give up, and decided to start again from scratch by launching a new browser, also called Edge, but this time adopting Google’s engine: Chromium. And finally, he created a browser to match.
Thanks to its engine, Edge is capable of offering users the same compatibility with websites and extensions as Google’s browser. And this already, from the outset, gives it a great advantage. Therefore, Microsoft’s only job is to add functionality to its browser, something it has been doing since the beginning. We have seen how it integrates with Microsoft services, helps us save on purchases by comparing prices and looking for coupons, and even allows us to position tabs verticallyto name some of the features of this browser.
But, in addition to all that, now Microsoft wants to conquer the players. And, for this, Edge will receive its new mode very soon «Edge for gamers».
This is the new Edge for players
At the moment, this feature is in a very early stage of development, and Microsoft has not provided much information about it. What we can know about her is that she will seek improve player experience when they use this browser.
In the first descriptions that we can find within the Canary branch of the browser, we find that a new home page focused on games will be presented. In addition, it will also add a new sidebar, which players can adapt according to their needs.
In addition, when activating this mode, we will find a new option that will allow us to reduce browser resource usage to boost gaming performance. A function clearly designed for those who have the browser open while playing to, for example, consult guides.
Microsoft also makes references to a new dark modevery characteristic among players, many gaming-themed themes, and a large number of customization options so that players can adapt the browser to their needs.
Can I activate it now?
To activate it, all you have to do is download and install Edge Canary from the Microsoft website. Once this browser is downloaded and installed, we open it, and within the “Appearance” section we can find the new “Edge for Gamers” option. Of course, this function is not yet available to 100% of Canary users.
We activate it, but for the moment it will do nothing. What we will see is that it automatically redirects us to the Edge add-ons store, to be able to install the add-ons we want. And, in addition, access to Discord and Twitch are automatically added to the sidebar.
It seems that Microsoft is not just going for Chrome, but with these features, the future of Opera GX (the version of the browser for gamers) is also in jeopardy.
