This time it’s the right one. France will set up the compulsory technical inspection for two wheels in 2024. Despite the cancellation of the project in 2022, the country is forced to bring it back on the table following an injunction from the Council of State. It finally complies with the European directive dating from 2014, after 10 years of procrastination. A decree published in official newspaper specifies the conditions for implementing technical controland of course effective date.

If the measure took so long to come to fruition, it is because it arouses strong opposition among the different user organizations, French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) in the lead. Other associations, however, such as Breathe, Get rid of the Scoot Or Paris without a car, on the contrary wanted to accelerate the arrival of the device. They were the ones who ultimately won their case. Let’s see how all this will play out in practice.

Mandatory technical inspection of two wheels will be implemented gradually in 2024

The vehicles concerned are those of category L, i.e. two wheels, three wheels and quadricycles. The first to have to pass a technical inspection are those registered before 2017.
