This great theory proves that Ted Lasso is based on The Wizard of Oz

It’s been two weeks since we said goodbye to ted lasso on AppleTV+but it happens a bit like with Succession: They are series that have conquered so many people that, even after days have gone by, people need to keep talking about them. In the case of the proposal starring Jason Sudeikis, the excuse could not be more curious and that is that a theory is now circulating on the internet that shows that the series is based mainly on one of the most famous children’s novels of all time, such as The Wizard of Oz.

Ted Lasso, the farewell he played

Although we loved hanging out in the AFC Richmond locker room, many of us agreed on the same thing: Ted Lasso had to say goodbye. After three seasonsall the main actors had explored (to a greater or lesser extent and more or less correctly) the arcs of their characters and the stories did not give much more of themselves.

We have said goodbye to a nice series with few pretensions that the vast majority of times has made us laugh -despite the fact that sometimes the jokes were a bit far-fetched or something Anglo-Saxon- and that has even been able to move us. Surely you also lived his last episode with emotion, but at the same time with the feeling that everything was closed at the moment in which it had to be done.

As we pointed out at the beginning, the fact that we have satisfactorily said goodbye to a series does not mean that it does not continue to be talked about and to show a button or, rather, the theory that circulates about what has been the main basis of inspiration for its creators.

A series full of references, and with The Wizard of oz as the center of everything?

We do not tell you anything new if we tell you that ted lasso it has always been full of references to popular culture or other series or movies. Without going any further, not long ago we told you that its ending had a great nod to cheers, the mythical series of the 80s, and that this was just one example of how during its three seasons, it had been making continuous allusions to many titles that we all knew.

However, we had never discussed whether the series had any landmark or central story, something that now ensures an elaborate theory circulating on the internet. According to this, Ted Lasso would have as its central axis The Wizard of Ozthe famous classic movie that we all know, based on the children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

As you will see in the Twitter thread that we leave you below, ted it would be based on Dorothy – even in some frames she is seen with red shoes, accompanied by her faithful friend Beard, alluding to Totó. Rebecca would be the Good Fairy of the North and Rupert the Wicked Witch of the West. On Ted’s way he will meet various characters representing the Cowardly Lion (which would be Keeley) or the Tin Man Roy Kent):

It is also indicated that in the penultimate episode “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” sounds and that in that same episode we see ted playing pinball, a machine with the logo of The Wizard of Oz, or that in another chapter Roy Kent wears a colored shirt, with the same tones that appear on the ground in a scene from the film. To continue curling the subject, it also happens that Ted’s mother is called Dottie (which is short for Dorothie).

In the thread you can find some more allusion as well as contributions from other fans who see it as clear as the creator of this theory.

And what do you think? Do you also think that Ted Lasso’s background is inspired by The Wizard of Oz?
