Samsung is not expected to introduce its new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, before the end of summer 2023. Rumors about these devices abound, however. Today, the very reliable Ice Universe reveals new details on the screen of these models.
As innovative as they are, foldable smartphones have a big weak point: their screen. The mechanical stress applied to the surface of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip generates, even on the most recent models, a very ugly crease on the screen. The Korean brand is not the only one to break its teeth on this problem of the solidity of its devices. Neither Oppo with the Find N or even Motorola with its Razr have managed to find a lasting solution to this phenomenon.
Disclose some Fold5/Flip5 specifications. I mentioned them before, but now I’m putting them together.
1. Both Fold5 and Flip5 adopt water droplet hinges and support IPX8 level waterproof.
2. The size of Fold5 is only 0.2mm different from that of Fold4, which can be almost… https://t.co/yEiPfgYQF1

In a tweet published yesterday, the leaker summarizes for us the known specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. He first tells us that the two devices will benefit from a teardrop hinge, for a fold less visible, and greater durability. In the same vein, they will both benefit from an IPX 8 certification, which means that they will resist immersion beyond 1 m and that they will be hermetically sealed, or at least that water will be able to penetrate for a certain time without producing any harmful effect.
The screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 should be much more resistant
Ice Universe also teaches us that if the dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are about the same to those of its predecessor, it will be slightly thinner when folded, thanks to the use of the new type of hinge. That said, the difference will not be spectacular, and will be counted in tenths of a millimeter.
The slimming treatment of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will also be seen on the scale, since it will weigh 254 g, or nine grams less than its predecessor. It is also rumored that both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The clamshell model will sport a 3.4-inch screen, the largest in this category of products.
