The Triumph TE1 will be the English manufacturer’s first foray into the world of electric propulsion; the first prototypes, which we discover here in images, have just entered the last phase of testing.
Triumph has just announced the TE-1, its brand new electric motorcycle prototype. According to Automobile Magazine, the machine is now entering the test phase and could therefore arrive on the market in the relatively near future.
No need to be a connoisseur to notice immediately that the manufacturer did not want to abandon the brand’s DNA during this switch to electric. The visual codes of Triumph are there, with its line, its inverted fork and its pair of headlights that even a neophyte could recognize.
For the performance side, we already know that Triumph has secured the services of companies specializing in the electrical sector. The manufacturer called on Williams Advanced Engineering to set up the battery side. On the prototype, the block in question has a capacity of 15 kWh and can be recharged to 80% in about twenty minutes.
Triumph has also approached another partner, Integral Powertrain, to develop the engine. The latter, in particular, is powered by an inverter capable of “generate more than 500 kW”. According to Automobile Magazine, in this context, this corresponds in practice to a power of 80 to 130 kW peak, or the equivalent of 110 to 180 horsepower for a car with a traditional engine.
No release date or price yet
The English University of Warwick, for its part, was responsible for bridging the gap by carrying out performance modeling. Apparently, the device in development since 2019 has already successfully passed the first three test phases. On its webpage dedicated to the third phase, the manufacturer explains that they have tested all the elements individually, from the frame to the tires, including the transmission, the electronics and the software part.
Its designers are now moving on to a test phase in real conditions with a product that should be very close to the final machine. But Triumph did not wish to communicate a deadline, and will apparently take all its time to complete its tests calmly. We will still have to wait to know things like the price or the release date.
