Ubisoft and Take-Two suspend the sale of their games in Russia

Every day more and more various large and not very gaming companies join the boycott against the Russian Federation. Now, giants such as Ubisoft and Take-Two have decided not to stand aside. These companies have decided to suspend their business in the country amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In more detail, this Monday, the aforementioned publisher and developer, Ubisoft, updated their blog post expressing support for Ukraine and its team members based there, noting that it is suspending sales of its video games in the Russian Federation. .

In the meantime, Take-Two has similarly ceased sales of its own, as well as suspending marketing support in Russia and Belarus. What’s more, the publisher has also told the reputable publication GamesIndustry.biz that it doesn’t even allow people in the two countries to install their own games. And in general, for the inhabitants of these countries, especially for those who do not support the actions of the government, this is a serious blow, since even such an incredibly popular game as Grand Theft Auto V, which is considered the third most popular video game in the Russian Federation, fell under this restriction. immediately after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, based on monthly active users.

Anyway, this is not the first, and certainly not the last such move by various video game companies. Since the beginning of the invasion, many well-known gaming companies have left Russia, including Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Microsoft, EA and even CD Projekt. Japanese tech giant Sony has similarly removed Gran Turismo 7 from its Russian store, while another Japanese video game company, Nintendo, has suspended payments on its Nintendo Switch eShop altogether.

Other large companies have similarly stopped or in any way limited the provision of their services and sales in Russia. Among them are such giants as Google, Netflix, TikTok, PayPal, Adobe, Internet service provider Cogent, and also Meta. The tech industry is doing the same, with South Korean consumer electronics maker Samsung halting shipments of its products to the country while Apple has suspended all sales.
