Valve wants to launch a new Steam Deck, and is clear about the improvements it will bring

The Steam Deck has been a complete success, and this has been very important not only for the future of Valve in the world of hardware, but also for all that this entails for Steam OSthe operating system used by said console and one of its great pillars.

Not long ago we were able to confirm that the company led by Gabe Newell wants to promote the development of Steam OS, and that it aspires to improve its position in the market by turning said operating system into an option for all manufacturers of handheld consoles who want to use it.

We also found out that Valve is starting to work on a new Steam Deckalthough the information we had was scarce and therefore we did not know if it was a successor to the current model or if it would rather be a simple revision or an intergenerational renewal with minor changes at the hardware level.

Thanks to an interview published by The Verge we have new information about the next Steam Deck, and we know that Valve does not conceive it as a successor to the original model, that is, we would not be facing a Steam Deck 2, but rather It would be an intergenerational renewal with small improvements at the hardware level. For us to understand each other a little better, it would be an evolution similar to that marked by Nintendo Switch OLED.

Two of the great improvements that those responsible for the team behind the Steam Deck want to introduce focus on battery and screen. A larger battery would improve autonomy and guarantee more hours of play, while an OLED screen would represent a significant leap in image quality and could help improve autonomy, since these types of panels have lower energy consumption than the IPS models.

On the hardware side, Valve believes this configuration is the “best possible” they’ll be able to offer for quite some time, which means we shouldn’t expect a Steam Deck 2 release anytime soon. This is perfectly understandable and makes sense, as Valve will most likely wait for AMD to have new APUs with a Zen 4 CPU and a Radeon RDNA3 GPU.

Valve has also commented on other important details, such as the possibility of releasing a software update that gives the user the option of set up and share profiles that allow you to set specific refresh rates, GPU frequencies and energy consumption for each game. The company has not forgotten either Steam Controller, and has confirmed that it is considering releasing a revision of it.
