WhatsApp rolls out edit messages feature for platform testers on the Web. As part of this beta, some Internet users will have the opportunity to try out a feature which, if it seems obvious and essential, is slow to land on the most popular messaging application in the world: the modification of messages, which is requested from hooting for years. Meta engineers have not yet managed to offer it either on iOS and Android, or on the Web.

Some WhatsApp testers on the web therefore have the option of modifying the content of their sent messages, but only for a limited time. If you made a bad spelling mistake or if you regret what you said, you will only have 15 minutes to change your text. This limitation is intentional, because it is, according to the creators of the application, to “maintain the authenticity of the conversation so that users cannot completely change their messages after a long period of time, because this feature should only be used to correct faults spellings or inattention”.

Eventually, editing sent messages will obviously not remain the prerogative of WhatsApp on the web. Users of the application on Android and iOS will soon also benefit from a beta version offering them the same possibility.

Her use should be more intuitiveand the procedure will be more or less identical to that which is followed in the competing applications:

  • open the conversation in which you want to change a message
  • click on the arrow pointing down in the message bubble
  • click on “Edit message” write the new message in the window that appears

The mention “Modified” (Edited) will appear in the bubble of the message concerned, so that all your interlocutors will know that you have changed the textual content of the conversation.
