As you may know, since the beginning of May 2023, the North American film industry is in slow motion. The reason ? The beginnings of a renewable strike decreed by the Writers Guild of America, the union which represents all the authors of the country.

We find in particular at the center of the claims better pay and greater recognition of authors in productions intended for streaming platforms. Result, many series find themselves at a standstill, for lack of scripts. This is for example the case of season 5 of Strangers Things, the Duffer brothers having confirmed on Twitter that the writing was at a standstill during this social movement.

Production on The Last of Us season 2 stalled

And according to the site variety, always well informed behind the scenes of the industry, season 2 of The Last of Us is in turn affected by this strike. Thus, we learn that preparations to compose the cast of this sequel have been suspended until further noticeaccording to at least one person involved in the production of the HBO show.

That said, it’s not surprising. For good reason, Craig Mazin, the co-creator of the series alongside Neil Druckmann, actively supports the movement and has been spotted on the picket line several times with his counterparts. In fact and in accordance with the guidelines of the WGA, he no longer participates in the writing and production of this season 2 until further notice. The same goes for Neil Druckmann, creative director of both games, who has paused his work on this long-awaited sequel.

According to Variety, the casting team asked the actors already cast to experiment with dialogue taken directly from The Last of Us Part II, the video game on which this second season will be based. As for the start of filming, it would finally begin in Vancouver at the start of 2024 rather than at the end of 2023 as announced by the actress of Ellie Bella Ramsay.
