Your old GameBoy can now be… a bitcoin wallet!

The world of cryptocurrencies continues to boom and every day more news, ideas and inventions come out regarding them. Everyone wants to get business from this trend, either with online projects or with products adapted to them, which is why they always surprise us with things that we didn’t even imagine could be created.

In today’s case, we are going to see a project where we can convert an old GameBoy into a bitcoin wallet with a cartridge made especially for it.

How does it work?

The project is called The Game Wallet, it is in the creation phase and its operation is very simple. The use of a Game Boy cartridge that works as an offline cryptocurrency wallet.

For now, as I mentioned, it is in the production and development phase, the final details are still a mystery, but the progress that they have been publishing gives us the opportunity to see how we would use a game like Pokémon to collect our recovery seed in a fairly funny. Safe? Well, I don’t know, I don’t think anyone thinks that you’re going to have it hidden in a Game Boy cartridge either.

The words of its creator regarding its intentions of operation and future were the following.

“So we are producing an actual physical cartridge that allows you to use your GameBoy as a cold storage wallet, generate mnemonic phrases, and store them securely offline. No firmware updates ever.”

From its official page you can sign up for the waiting list in order to have all the news on how the project is going and to be one of the first to have the “game” if you are interested in these topics and want to try it yourself.

It must be commented that he code will be completely open (open source) which is referred to on the web with the following words.

“Safely generating randomness will always be vital to our digital lives. Recent events have created uncertainty around hardware wallets, demonstrating the need for a simple, low-tech alternative.”

The project is very interesting, we could question if it will be useful or it will simply be something curious that does not go beyond collecting, but what must be said is that people have some rather strange ideas and they attract our attention. Hopefully we will see these cartridges on the market soon and we can analyze them personally to give you a real opinion.
