A half-Honda, half-Sony electric car?

Sony has already made a timid arrival in the automotive world, but now it is about to collaborate with Honda to grow.

The world of electric cars is filled with new players every day. While Tesla seems to dominate the market with its Model 3, Model S and Model X, many contenders are looking to knock the Californian brand off its pedestal. On the other side of the global, a surprising alliance could well see the light of day, in the country of the Rising Sun.

The historic car and motorcycle manufacturer, Honda, could form an alliance with the Sony brand. The two companies could join forces to form a new, unprecedented one that would produce unique electric cars. A first protocol agreement has been signed between the two companies. If the name were to be known during the year, the first vehicle will not arrive before 2025.

The partnership aims to combine Honda’s skills in manufacturing and marketing cars with those of Sony in image sensors, telecommunications and entertainment.

According to Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda: “The new company will aim to be at the forefront of mobility innovation, evolution and expansion around the world, taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds customers’ expectations and imaginations”.

This is not the first time that Sony has demonstrated its interest in electric cars, the brand having already presented several concepts, including the Vision-S 02, presented at the last edition of CES in Las Vegas. This partnership will allow the brand, better known for the PS5 than its cars, to take a big step forward in the automotive world.

Sony isn’t the only brand wanting to make cars

Other new technology brands, including Apple, have already shown a more or less pronounced interest in entering the world of electric cars. As for the Cupertino company, there have been many rumors for years about the arrival of the “Apple, Car”, but no official communication has been made yet.

One thing is certain, electric cars are undoubtedly the future of motoring, and everyone seems to want to join the ship before the market is saturated. Recently, Hyundai announced that it is investing billions of dollars to produce 17 new electric car models by the end of the decade.
