Checkpoint Systems acquires Alert Systems to grow in retail anti-theft solutions

The RFID and RF security technologies company Checkpoint Systems has announced the purchase of the Danish company Alert Systems. This company is a specialist in development of Internet of Things security systems, and focuses mainly on the detection by means of metals and metallic devices in retail environments. That is, in the design and manufacture of anti-theft systems for retail establishments.

Alert Systems was born in 1999, and since then has been dedicated to providing the retail industry with solutions to identify tools and techniques used by people who engage in shoplifting. These techniques include bags lined with aluminum foil on the inside and devices used to separate magnetic labels from products. These are just some of those that are detected at the entrance and exit of the stores, as well as in the fitting rooms, developed by the company.

As for Checkpoint, it has been a partner, and one of the main distributors, of Alert Systems for several years, supporting its development of innovative metal and magnetic detection products. Among them are Hyperguard, Metal guard and Apparelguard. All are software-driven digital solutions developed to counter the actions of professional shoplifters, who use foil-lined bags and magnet and magnetic tag removal devices to rob supermarkets and general brick-and-mortar stores.

The success that both companies have achieved with this agreement has naturally evolved to lead to the purchase of the entirety of Alert Systems which has been executed by Checkpoint Systems. In this way, the latter will be able to strengthen its portfolio of prevention solutions against loss and theft.

Ben Lilienthal, President of Checkpointhas highlighted that «Organized retail crime is growing around the world. In the United States alone, retailers saw an increase in incidents in 2021, with losses from them reaching nearly $100 billion in 2022. This is because criminals are using increasingly advanced methods to avoid detection. Some can even block traditional EAS anti-theft solutions«.

Besides. Lilienthal has pointed out that “By providing retailers with more information about when and where threats used by organized crime enter stores, our new solutions will help retailers reduce the ever-increasing prevalence of gang-related crime. Checkpoint has long been known for its expertise in security in the retail industry, and we look forward to providing our retail customers around the world with an offer that prevents major losses and suits the security needs of any store. retail«.

For his part, Troels Falkenberg, CEO of Alert Systemshas pointed out that “Checkpoint’s purchase of Alert Systems is the next logical step in our shared mission to end crime in retail. With this scourge on the growing industry, it’s important that retailers have access to a robust solutions portfolio to help them manage the problem effectively, and we know Checkpoint Systems is the right organization to facilitate this. The company has a well-known and long-standing reputation in the field of loss prevention, and we are delighted to convert our prior agreement into a complete purchase.«.
