Even the eggs have Ray Tracing in the Unreal Engine 5 demo

Ray tracing technology has been introduced to provide games with more realism and higher visual quality. The negative part of this technology is the computational cost, which affects performance. Unreal Engine 5 has published a demonstration of one Ramen Shop with Ray Tracing and DLSS 3.5 which is very pretty, even the eggs have ray tracing.

One of the “controversies” surrounding Ray Tracing is its use. Few users use it regularly, which is an indication that something is wrong. Many admit to using it occasionally or having tried it, but do not use it due to the computational cost.

On the other hand, we have the problem of DLSS, which does not work the same version on all graphics cards. DLSS 3.0 is an exclusive technology of the NVIDIA RTX 40 Series because the company has established it that way.

How beautiful the eggs with reflections

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty It is a DLC that will be released next September 26. One of the features you will implement is DLSS 3.5, that improves the graphic quality of reflections under Ray Tracing. Something that can only be enjoyed by those who have invested in the latest NVIDIA graphics cards

Before its launch, a demo of Unreal Engine 5 with Ray Tracing and DLSS 3.5 active in a game scene. Specifically, the proof is based on a Ramen Shop from within the game. And this graphics engine natively adds this new image rescaling technology to simplify use for game developers.

This Ramen Shop created by NVIDIA under the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine It’s very pretty. Add effects like RTX Direct Illumination, Lumen Global Illumination, Lumen Reflections and DLSS 3.5.

This demo makes use of cinema-quality 8K textures and high sampling rates thanks to the hardware global illumination.

The demo have a weight of no less than 10GB and it has a side menu to make different adjustments. It allows you to alter the amount of FPS, Super resolution modes and Ray Reconstruction technology. Wccftech has used a NVIDIA RTX 4090 to be able to move it, highlighting that it is truly spectacular.

Above all, they have focused on some bowls that contain eggs, which reflect the rays in a curious way. One might think that these have been fired in wax or other material that helps reflect light. So much reflection in the eggs is a little artificial, especially when compared to the metal cube they have next to them.

Very spectacular visually, but what about the performance?

We have to say that this is a closed demo with 8K graphics and, as you can see, without NPCs. We must take all these factors into account, since the demo is surely highly optimized. Now, look for a game that is optimized other than Among Us.

We can see that the demo does not exceed 50 FPS with DLSS 3.5 at any time. What’s more, there are frame drops in some areas and it is an empty scene, without characters moving.

Very spectacular, but we are talking about a completely empty “game” scene. Actually, we are talking about a sale of a product, which is not the graphics engine, but ray tracing for NVIDIA graphics cards.
