Gmail also bets on the blue ‘check’ for message verification

Gmail will start flagging messages from organizations that have been verified with a check blue, in the purest style of Twitter. For the Internet giant’s email service, however, it’s just a step forward on the path taken a couple of years ago to improve Gmail’s security.

As soon as you notice, they have always been there, but for some time now they have become especially popular. We refer to the checks, small distinctions with which different services guarantee the legitimacy of something, usually related to the authorship of whatever is behind that something. Well, Gmail joins the… fashion?

It’s not really a fad, but a widely used visual mechanism, only with all the fuss that came from Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, the topic hasn’t stopped talking. Its traditional purpose, however, has not changed one iota… except on Twitter, curiously, where anyone can buy a check blue by subscribing to the payment plan.

The blue check, checks blue or blue ticks, however, they arrive in Gmail to help users identify verified sendersthat is, companies or other types of organizations that have already started the verification process required by Google and that include domain-based authentication and VMC certificates for registered trademarks, in such a way that if they comply with said requirements, they will be able to request their check blue.

All this, for the comfort and security of users, of course, since it is much easier to identify a brand like the one you can see in the image above at a glance, than to be checking other details of the sender on your own, in the If it is an organization: Google already takes care of that.

This is, as noted, one more step in the implementation of the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) standard, “a feature that requires senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo to display the logo of the mark as avatar in emails ”, they explain in the Google Workspace blog.

You already know: stop relating the check blue with social networks, because it is valid for more things, even when its purpose is the same.
