Google Cloud announces new cloud tools for retail

Google Cloud has announced several Technologies assisted by Artificial Intelligence for the retail sector. All with the aim that businesses have more facilities to transform the processes of checking the shelves of the different establishments. Also to improve their online stores and offer better shopping experiences to their customers.

The first of these novelties is a physical store shelf verification solution. It has been developed in the Google Cloud Vertex AI Vision environment, and uses a Google database, with information about people, places and articles. It is based on two machine learning models: a product recognizer and a label recognizer. Thanks to this, it is capable of recognizing billions of products, and helps in the correct sizing of store shelves. Also to avoid having holes in them.

As for the images that its Artificial Intelligence admits, they can be used from those of a camera located on the roof of the store, those of an employee or manager’s smartphone, or those taken by a robot that moves through the shelves. The images and data of the retailer, yes, are always his property. Its trial version is now available.

The company has also updated its Discovery AI solutions, the second of these innovations, with various customization capabilities assisted by Artificial Intelligence. Apart from this, it has added a new navigation function, also with Artificial Intelligence. Specifically, with a machine learning system. Its mission is to present the products on the ecommerce website in the optimal order, after whoever visits a category of an online store has selected it. To do this, it uses various criteria, such as precision, relevance and probability of closing a sale. With both novelties, stores can update their online storefronts and provide them with better shopping experiences.

As for the latest news, it is the solution AI Recommendations, which integrates new machine learning capabilities for retailers, enabling them to dynamically optimize ordering and product recommendation panels on their web pages. In this way, they will be able to offer personalized suggestions to customers who make several purchases on the web. Both this, and the news in Discovery AI, are now generally available.

Carrie Tharp, Vice President of Retail and Consumer at Google Cloudhas pointed out about these developments that «hehe turmoil of recent years has reshaped the retail landscape and the tools businesses need to be more efficient, more convincing to their customers, and less exposed to future shocks. Despite the uncertainty, the sector faces great opportunities. Tomorrow’s leaders will be the ones addressing today’s most pressing challenges for retail and online sales with the latest technology, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.«.
