Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Chris Columbus reveals the existence of a 3-hour version

If you have extended editions of the saga films in your Blu-ray collection Harry Potter direct Chris Columbus, then you are already aware of the presence of some cut scenes in the theatrical version of the films; scenes that common Muggles are unaware of. However, you may not be aware of one 3 hour version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which director Chris Columbus would now like to bring to theaters.

There is a 3-hour version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone out there somewhere, and Chris Columbus wants to show it to us

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Columbus said:

“We knew the movie worked because we did a couple of premieres. Specifically a preview in Chicago where our first cut was three hours long. The parents later said it was too long, the children said it was too short. I thought, well, presumably kids have shorter attention spans, so that’s a good thing. “

Now, all those kids are grown-ups and would probably love to see the 3-hour director’s cut of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which, as explained by the director himself, includes all the cut scenes in which Pix was appearing!

For those who haven’t read the books, Peeves (or Peeves, depending on the translation / version you have of the Harry Potter books) is a poltergeist who haunts Hogwarts, and was played by Rik Mayall in deleted scenes.

In the interview, the reporter from The Wrap said he’d like to see the three-hour version released on the big screen, to which Columbus replied with: “Me too. We have to put Pix back in the film, which was cut from the film! “
