What is sensitive content on Twitter?
When there are so many people in a social network, with different tastes, different customs, and from any part of the world, it is normal for more or less strong limits to be established.
There are some occasions when users share violent or adult content that may not be to everyone’s taste. Therefore, while the platform itself catalogs the contenthides it within the searches, and marks it as sensitive, so that it is displayed discreetly, until it can be reviewed.
Furthermore, as in the social network There are also users on Twitter who are under 18 years of age.the social network restricts a lot of its contenteven for those users who have not added their date of birth to their profile.
Twitter classifies sensitive content into five categories:
- graphic violence
- Adult content
- violent sexual conduct
- gore free
- hate images
In the event that someone shares hateful images in a Tweet, the content will be automatically hidden, and most likely that user’s account will be immediately and permanently blocked.
According to the social network’s own policy, we can share graphic violence or adult content produced by consensus as long as we mark it as sensitive content.
However, as is logical, Twitter does not allow violent sexual conduct, gore or similar content.
In addition, the social network also moderates and restricts content based on the type of media and the place (country) where it is shared, according to the rules of the place of origin itself.
Why does Twitter display the warning “This Tweet may contain sensitive content”?
If a user marks their own Tweet as sensitive or if the social network itself detects that the Tweet contains sensitive material, the platform will display the “sensitive content” warning.
Thanks to that warning, the content will be hidden, and they will be the users themselves who decide if they want to see the tweet and its content, or if, on the contrary, they wish to ignore it.
There are accounts on the platform that share sensitive content on a more or less regular basis. With these people, Twitter warns us with the following sentence:
Suspected: This profile may contain potentially sensitive content. You are seeing this message because they tweet potentially sensitive language or images. Do you still want to see it?
And just like before, you again have the option to see that user’s content or not to see it.
How to view sensitive content on iPhone or on the web?
We can’t enable those settings by default in the Twitter app on iPhone. Because those settings are simply not displayed, they are not available in the app’s own settings.
For this reason, iPhone or Mac users must change the settings outside of the application, so that we can be shown media that may contain sensitive content.
If you want to know how to do it, follow these steps:
- first we will open Safari and log in to our Twitter account.
- Now we play in our profile picture, displayed in the upper left corner.
- If you find yourself modifying these settings on a Mac, you need to click the option +located just above the Tweet on the left.
- now go to Configuration and technical support.
- Select the option of Settings and privacy.
- Now touch where it says Privacy & Security.
- Here we have to click on content you see.
- And already here, we select the box that puts the legend Show media that may contain confidential content.
How to allow sensitive content in Twitter searches
For security and social network policy, content that is marked as sensitive and the accounts of those users who frequently post sensitive content do not appear in searches by default.
This is because the social network hides this content and these users by default. But we can modify this default setting.
Once again these settings cannot be modified from the Twitter application on the iPhone, so we will have to do it from Safari, or from any other browser we use.
- We go to the browser that we use and open it.
- From the browser we log in to our Twitter account.
- we play our profile picture in the top left corner if you’re on your iPhone, but if you’re on a Mac, you have to click the + option located just above the Tweet on the left.
- Now let’s Configuration and technical support.
- We select where it says Settings and privacy.
- we play in Privacy & Security.
- And now we click on content you see.
- We press the option Look for in the configuration.
In this section we cancel the selection of the check box “Hide sensitive content”.
With these modified parameters we can search for Tweets or accounts of those users that show confidential or sensitive content.
Turn off the sensitive content warning for your own Tweets
Even though you tweet a lot, your tweets may not reach much. You shouldn’t get your hopes up, but perhaps this can happen because you accidentally turned on the sensitive content warning for your own tweets.
Therefore, if you do not post sensitive content, it is best to disable this setting, or at least check that it is not active.
To do so, follow these simple steps:
- We open the application Twitter on our iPhone. Yes, now we can modify these settings directly from our device.
- we play our profile picture in the top left-hand corner.
- And we select Configuration and support >Settings and privacy.
- Now we click on Privacy & Security.
- We select the option your tweets.
- And finally we check if it is checked or not, the option “Flag media you tweet to indicate that it might contain sensitive material”and it would be.
These are the steps to be able to see sensitive content on twitter, to be able to search for it and even to be able to share it following the policy of the social network itself.
