Immersive View, from Google Maps, arrives in Spain

It’s been over a year since Google announced Immersive View for Google Maps. Said announcement occurred at Google I/O 2022, and a short time later, in July, the company reported on the already close deployment of this function. However, despite this, we had to wait until the beginning of this year for the function to start rolling out effectively, as we told you last March. And even, at that time, there were only a few users who were able to access this long-awaited function.

Much closer in time, during the past Google I / O 2023, Google showed us the evolution of Immersive Viewwhich will allow us to review the routes generated by Google Maps with this format, a visually very attractive proposal, since thanks to a gigantic history of images of the locations, as well as information on traffic, weather, etc., it will offer us a reproduction in Realistic 3D, with multiple environmental elements, of the route that we want to carry out.

Google announced that this evolution of Immersive View will soon be coming to Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Paris, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Tokyo, and Venice, so no It seems likely that we will be able to enjoy this new mode of Google Maps in some Spanish city at least until 2024. Now, And what about the deployment of the immersive views that were announced to us a little over a year ago?

Well, the good news is that it has finally arrived in Spain. Currently available in the Google Maps apps for iOS and Android, Barcelona, Córdoba and Madrid already have Immersive View in certain locations. We don’t know if this mode will also reach the web version of Google Maps, but the latest version of the app for both operating systems already offers access to this advanced visual mode.

You will see, yes, that I have indicated that It is available for certain locations, but not for the total of the three Spanish citiesAt the moment, this privilege corresponds exclusively to four of the cities already mentioned in Google I/O 2023, Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice. As we can read on the official blog, more than 500 featured locations from places around the world have been added.

The deployment of such locations, however, is being progressive. For example, it has been announced that this mode of Google Maps will allow us to enjoy a unique view of the Mosque of Córdoba, although it is not yet available. We can, however, visit the Plaza de España and the Palacio de Cristal, in Madrid, or the Plaça de Catalunya and La Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona.

Thus, in order to enjoy Immersive View in Google Maps, you will only have to search for the chosen location in the app for Android or iOS and, in the tab that will be displayed above it, you will see that a rotating 3D image is displayed, with the text “Immersive View” superimposed in the upper left corner. You will only have to click on it and, in this way, this three-dimensional model will be displayed. In addition, if you click on “Time and time”, you can also adjust these parameters.
